Looking for Advice on Setup
Hey guys.
So, I have two rear ends. The one I've been using is the original 1984, 26 spline axles, open diff, with the DM discs. The other is from a 90, 28 spline, no guts, and has drums.
Since this car will have the potential to move pretty quick when it's all said and done, I'd like it to be able to stop pretty quick, too. I'm 90 percent sure that the DMs were not working at all, or if they were, very little.
Either way I'm going to end up shelling out some cash. With the 84 rear, I would likely have to spend less since I already have brand new bearings, etc, and the 90 has no differential and the spline count is different.
Since the DMs are more or less garbage from what I can tell, I'm guessing that the master cylinder, PV, and drum rear from the 1990 would perform better? Alternatively, which would be easier\more cost effective to upgrade to better discs?
I appreciate the help!
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Looking for Advice on Setup
i bought a complete 3.42/locker/disc brake rearend out of a 70,000 mile '02 Z28 convertible for $300 this spring... then i went back a week later and gave the guy $100 for the aluminum driveshaft from the same car... took me about 3 hours to swap the whole thing in from the time i jacked up the car to the time i set it back down on the ground with the brakes bled, and that was with an hour long break in the middle..
