removing e-brake handle/cables 9 bolt
i had questions regarding swapping out a 3:08 ten bolt and swapping in a 3:27 9 bolt,
i have the 10 bolt in my current 1986 T/A and the 9 bolt is in a 1988 GTA parts car.
both are disc brake rears, both are posi trac and both seem to be functioning properly.
my questions are :
1)is it worth the trouble to do this?(3:08 to 3:27,will i notice a difference? its a t5 car )
2) what do i need to swap other than the obvious like the rear end, driveshaft and brake lines?
3)what do i need to connect the e-brake from my 10 bolt equipped car to the 9 bolt?
any comments, suggestions etc are welcomed.thanks go out to all of the thirdgen.org gurus

More to your point about it being worth it, it will be a fair amount of work for not much gain. You should have that 3.27 swapped to a 3.45 before installing it in the car. Going to the 3.27 is only a 6% increase in torque. That is 6% across the board, but not much. If you went to the 3.45 that is available for 9-bolts that is an 12% increase across the board.
With gears force is inversely proportional to Speed. So from the same increase in force, you will get a decrease in RPM... which can be calculated into speed.... I will assume you know you will shift at a lower MPH in exchange for more grunt.
Ignoring Drive line Loss, T5 is 2.95 1st So:
300*2.95*3.08 = 2726ft-lbs peak
300*2.95*3.27=2894(6.16%) Same as having 318ft-lbs at the engine or adding 18ft-lbs to the engine's output.
300*2.95*3.45=3053 (12%) Same as having 336ft-lbs at the engine or adding 36ft-lbs to the engine's output.
How much effort are you willing to put in for how much return?
Just my
but every hobby hot rod I have owned has had a gear between 3.45-4.11 and for on the street, I love a deep gear. It might not work the best at the track on some applications, but always seems to be more fun in the 20mph-80mph range we spend most of our time driving in. Re: removing e-brake handle/cables 9 bolt
now my ten bolt is screaming and howling ,just started this week
i swapped a new aluminum driveshaft hoping it was the u-joints(it wasn't)
i filled up the t5 with trans fluid hoping it was just low(it wasn't that)
i topped up the rear hoping it was low on fluid(that wasn't it either.)
so what i really need to know, what do i need to do this swap.the car is a 10 bolt 3.08 posi with disc brakes(obviously swapped before i bought it)
the spare rear is a nine bolt 3.27 posi with disc brakes and looks like my only current emergency alternative.
1)do the 10 bolt e-brake cables work with the 9 bolt?
2)are the brake lines the same?
3)is there anything else i need to be aware of ?
