ls front brakes

I am getting ready to do my front ls brake upgrade. I am a little scared to try and drill and tap the spindles. Does anyone have any tips? I have a drill press so the drilling the spindle is not the big scare. but i have never tapped something so integral.

Re: ls front brakes

Spindles are relatively soft, so taping isn't too tough. Most important: make sure you use the correct size drill bit for the tap you are using. Very important to have full depth threads in soft material.

It's not bad at all. I did mine while the spindles were still on the car. Here is my write up I did .https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brak...e-upgrade.html

Re: ls front brakes

The trick is tapping the holes absolutely perpendicular. Most people are never going to check, they'll just blast it out with a hand drill and shove the tap in dry, call it good. Fortunately you don't hear about failures so it must not happen often.

Truth! Yeah use cutting oil or at least some WD40 or something similar to lubricate while drilling and tapping.
