New Brakes
New Brakes
hey everyone, as i'm getting all my suspension stuff put in, my mechanic showed me that i needed new everything regarding the brakes so i said go for it...my problem is this...i'm a volunteer firefighter, and i occasionally have to really jam on the brakes ...will my rotors or pads get screwed up bad for this? he already put them in, but for future reference? also, i wanted to redo the brakes on the car later on, but due to unforseen circumstances i'm putting them on now...they are just regular replacements, but will buying a new brake system, like the one below raise the value of the car, and catch a potential buyer's eye when i sell it?

btw...that looks freakin beautiful...how much

jaming on the brakes creates more heat and more wear...unless you lock the brakes up...then you get more tire wear, it's not gonna screw anything up tho, just wear stuff out a little quicker
i'm starting to think that nothing but time will increase the value of our cars, i see guys with extensive work to their cars selling them for 6-8k, not bad, but not near the $ put into them
i think thats a $800+ kinda brake setup...but i don't claim to be very knowledgable in the brake department

yea, to the right buyer that would raise the value... and make you alot safer on calls..
i used to run calls back when i had my 82 camaro.. it NEEDED better brakes too...
anyhoo a occasional single hard stop once they are bedded in shouldnt hurt it..
now if you are jamming hard on the brakes before every corner without giving them a chance to cool down, then the chance of you warping somthing is higher.. and your street pad life tends to die quicker.....
anyhoo, brake upgrades are cool... if you can afford it, go for it..
cheapest option other then DIY is the 1LE kits... roughly $700 if memory serves me correctly.....
better option that is more expencive is one of the bigger (rotor and caliper) aftermarket brake kits.... but they cost $1100 and up... some of the more badass ones go for $3500! O_O
if you are into machining, or making custom stuff though, you can do some of the DIY stuff for $700 and less, and still get better then 1LE brakes..

would it be possible then, if i were to get new front brakes, to switch out the drums and put the old front disks in the back...is it worth it....would there be a lot of work to it...how much additional expenses could i expect if it were to be done?

it would not be possible to put the old front brakes in back, but there are quite a few people who are swaping rear drums for rear disks, the easiest way is to swap the whole rear end, that is what I will be doing, I am planning the C4 front brakes and a disk rear out of a 4th gen Z28
you can find several threads on rear disk swaps be searching, there is too much to post it all here
