Rear disc brake calipers for 83 Z/28
I need the parking brake levers and springs for the rear calipers. A p.o. put calipers on that don't have any parking brake levers at all. I have looked and cant find any calipers with e brake levers at all. Im finding calipers but no hardware included. Anyone that has solved this problem on their 83 i would appriciate the advice. i have the 5 speed and also state inspection requires a parking brake to work. Thanks

Re: Rear disc brake calipers for 83 Z/28
The levers are still available! AC Delco part number 18010361
Rockauto has them:
https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/ac...ake+lever,1868
I haven't found the springs either. They are part number 18005822.
If you find any, let me know. I am looking for a pair too.
These were also used on other GM calipers (Cadillac, Buick, Olds)
18060030 may be an equivalent part number. Also discontinued.
Sometimes, you can find rebuilt calipers with the lever and spring. These are getting hard to find.
Cardone 18-4164 is the part number.
Advance Auto claims to have them, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were "out of stock".
Let us know how you make out!

Re: Rear disc brake calipers for 83 Z/28
There's a seller on eBay who has a few lever/spring kits for 1985 Cadillac Eldorado rear brakes.
Search for "1985 Eldorado Riviera rear brake caliper parking brake lever bracket spring kit"
The spring is supposed to be the same as what's on the Camaro caliper, so you could try buying his kit, using the springs, and throwing away the Cadillac levers.
His kit is not cheap. I wonder where he's getting the springs...
You're probably best off just finding rebuilt calipers with the levers and springs, if possible.
These calipers were a problem and until 1987 or so when they redesigned them, they very often stopped self adjusting.
If the po removed the levers and springs, he may have been trying to fix this. Reinstalling the levers and springs on your existing calipers may not give you a working parking brake.

Re: Rear disc brake calipers for 83 Z/28
Guys: I looked at GM spring specs until I was almost blind and found THESE. The part # is 135905127. The work. They're not as forceful as the original, but they work, and they fit tight. Amazon has them, and they are on eBay from the same seller. They are less than $7 each.
My son and I threw out the OEM springs because they were rusty. We ALMOST tossed the bracket too because we figured they were part of the caliper and we would get new ones. Thank God we didn't. Here are some pix. I'll check back with long-term results, or you can check my "Gen 3 Camaro Project" tab at my w3afc.com web site.
Compressed. These aren't as tight as the correct part #, but they do work.
Relaxed. The little "hook" on this spring makes it easier to grip when you put it on.
The wire end fits through the bracket hole perfectly.
Viewed from the top. The excess metal doesn't make contact with anything on our '89 Z.

Re: Rear disc brake calipers for 83 Z/28
I thought they might be close enough, since most parts for our '89 say "82-92 Camaro". I can delete the post if it's not useful. I just added that our car is an 89.

Your pictures and info are very helpful to someone looking for springs for a later year thirdgen, so I'd leave it, I just wanted to mention that it's different than rear disc brakes on an '83. Thanks!
