Need part numbers for 93-97 LT1 rear rotors & PBR calipers
Need part numbers for 93-97 LT1 rear rotors & PBR calipers
I just purchased a new 8.8 inch rear axle from Hawks for my 1986 IROC. It has billet backing plates for 93-97 LT1 brakes without TCS.
It did not come with brakes, I have to purchase them separately. I found what I believe to be the rotors I need at Summit Racing (part # AX55027) for $42.99 each. Is this correct?
I found NEW 93-97 rear calipers at Hawks (SKU: C448) for $200/pair with the core charge. Are these the correct PBR calipers? Just want to make sure before I order them. Any advice appreciated.

$75/caliper + $25/core looks fairly competitive. But NEW calipers usually don't require core returns and charges, so maybe they're new, but maybe they're remans.
Often, remans are referred to as "new" because remans are, essentially, "new." But since you have no cores to return anyway, you won't be getting back that $50. Bring that up to Hawk's and see if they'll drop the core charges, especially IF they really are NEW.
And if you haven't already, see what Hawk's recommends for e-brake cables. Most likely you'll need them for 89-92 3rdgen Performance Package rear brakes, not the ones for the LT1 rears.
Plus, you'll still need the pad abutment brackets, which don't appear to be included with the calipers from Hawk's. Those might cost as much as $50 for a pair, but they're likely to be included with remans from other vendors, such as Rock Auto or locally.
As already suggested, try Rock Auto for some of the best prices. Check your local auto parts stores too. Most remans will come with pad abutment brackets. See how much the totals will be for calipers w/pad abutment brackets + core charges vs Hawk's calipers + cores. Checkout rotors and pads too. Then check the vendor's forum for a valid discount code for Rock Auto. Only 5%, but it will probably cover the shipping costs.
4thgens are plentiful in junkyards, so if your area has some yards nearby, and you have time for a scavenger hunt, then you might find a pair for about $20 each, abutment brackets included (providing you don't forget them). Then either clean them up and/or rebuild them (if you feel it's necessary) and use them, or you can return them as cores (but keep the brackets).
Also look for reman 89-92 3rdgen Performance Package rear calipers. Their size and fit are exactly the same as 93-97 LT1 rear calipers. They, too, will probably come with the abutment brackets, also the same as LT1 brackets.
