Catastrophic Brake Failure
Just a cool story I wanted to share. The other day I was driving and went over some train tracks, slowly of course, few seconds later pedal sinks to the floor, pull over, give it a quick glance didn't see anything. Get it home carefully. Drivers side rear wheel is wet with brake fluid (4th gen rear). Take wheel off, low and behold, lower caliper bolt is GONE, brake piston is GONE, inner brake pad is GONE. So bolt came loose, caliper swings up, piston goes flying out, probably somewhere on the side of the road. Will be putting on a dab of loctite next time around. Anybody have any other cool catastrophic failure stories?

Re: Catastrophic Brake Failure
Sounds like something was left loose.
Skip the Loctite, VERY bad idea. Instead, spank your mechanic. HARD. Butt stop if s/he starts enjoying it.
Best such story I have is, in the 70s, I had a 60 Chevy. YYYUUUUUJJJJE. Was coasting down a hill to a stop light when one of the rubber hoses popped. Being a single MC, the pedal went straight to the floor. I was in the left turn lane and there were cars on my right and oncoming traffic to the left so I couldn't even dodge. All I could do was watch helplessly as the cars waiting at the light at the bottom op the hill got larger and larger. I hit the rearmost one at about 35 mph probably. It was a Pinto, and DAMMIT, it didn't blow up!!! Pushed that car into ANOTHER Pinto, and DOUBLE DAMMIT, it didn't blow up either!!!! Bent one of my headlight trim rings and the grille just a little... pissed me off to the core... those 2 Pintos cost me ABUNCHA money on insurance over the next few years.
