4th gen master cyl on 3rd gen car

doing a brake upgrade on my 82.
i need to use a 4th gen master cyl, i wont spend 20 minutes going into detail or explaining myself why i am doing this.

the question is
1 Will my hood still close after i put the 4th gen setup on
2 is the 4th gen master cylinder as low as the original one i have on my 82 z28.

i am retaining my 82 booster and bolting on a 4th gen master cyl and adjustable proportioning valve.

Re: 4th gen master cyl on 3rd gen car

I just did this swap, 4th gen master, booster and pedals, 3rd gen prop valve with disc brakes valve and spring and my brakes are 1000% better. Master cyl fits nicely and same as original one, hood closes just fine. I would suggest swapping over the 4th gen booster and pedals as well to have just to have the complete fourth gen setup. Have heard of people having issues when mixing parts.

Yeah, don't mix the parts. The booster/master shouldn't be mixed. I think you can use the 3rd gen pedals w either but the master and booster need to be from the same generation. There's a pushrod that is an issue between the two generations. The 82 cars also use different line fittings, but that easy enough to deal with.

Been there, done that, went back to stock. You'll end up with an excessive gap between the pin and the master cylinder. Pedal will have a dead spot at the top and will be low by the time the brakes work. It happens to everyone that does this, it's just that some people are less discerning than others or never felt a good pedal for comparison.

Swap over the 4th gen master and booster together if you're going to do this.

My 82 master and booster work fine w my wilwood setup. I don't think swapping will get you much. If you do swap, do a complete swap.
