Rear pad spring clip

Hey all, I am doing the rear brakes (PBRs) on my bird, and the new pads came with these clips.

I assume these go between the pad springs to help keep them apart, with the springs on the outside of the four little stubs that are along the sides of the clip, as shown.

Obviously the springs will be more well sat on the clip, but I was wondering if this is even how they are supposed to be installed in the first place. It places the clip under a good amount of tension and I found that the springs would sometimes slip off of the clip when I tried installing them. Since I couldn’t find anything on these clips in my service book or online, I figured that one of you folks would know better.
