Does 500$ sound right for a trade in?
My apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum. Does 500$ sound right on a 91 RS 305 auto 178k . Body's fair. Runs ok. Only major problem is speedo doesn't work. That's about what KBB said I can expect. I have to sell my car to get something more practical. I've got it listed on auto trader but if I can't sell it in a few weeks I am just going to trade it in. I really need something more practical for the kids. I wish I could keep it but I can't. 500$ seemed really low to me. I still drive the car to work all the time. I'd call it reliable.

Well man I hate to say it but the car dealerships are gonna give you whole sale price on your car if you trade it in. $500 or maybe even less is what they'll give you I hate to say it. I was about to trade my 91 5spd v8 firebird with 225,000miles in an the sales manager said $500 for trade an they said put it on Craigslist an sell it.
An this is my where I work I work in service at a GM dealership so they told me to just put it on Craigslist which I have now.

Damn. Well thanks for letting me know. Guess I'll see what happens with the autotrader add. If that doesn't work out then it is what it is. I'd just hate to see it end up in a crusher. I've had it for a while now and I've grown attached to it.

Put it up for sale here in the classifieds. Doubtless, if it is in OK shape, running and driving, you could do better than 500 bones.

A decade ago I paid a grand for a decent '91 RS LO3 / auto with T-tops, new 235/55R16s, and working a/c, seemed like a good price, no regrets, but these days Camaros aren't in any demand, no matter how cheap, unless it has only 5 miles on it and it's a 1LE or something. Then those are bringing 50 times what they're worth.

My dad is a wholesaler, has been for over thirty years. He buys the trade-ins from the new dealerships that they won't put on their used lots and then he turns around and sells them to used dealerships with a small mark up. Thats how it works. They give you the 500 bucks trade-in value, sell it to a wholesaler for an additional 100-200, who in turn sells it to some random tote the note lot for another additional 100-200. The note lot does the final screwing by sticking it on their lot for 3500...lol

Post it here, somebody will buy & enjoy it.
When I bought my new Tundra a year & a half ago, the dealership struggled to give me $8,000 for my 2007 Tacoma with 146,000 miles on it and the airbag light on telling me it just wasn't even worth that (they said it with a straight face too). I posted it on craigslist & it was GONE in less than 24 hours for $16,000!

Re: Does 500$ sound right for a trade in?
If you were closer to central Illinois I would offer you $500 for it. I wouldn't normally offer to buy a car sight unseen but if the car were in good condition and runs good then I don't know why you couldn't sell it to someone instead of trading it in.
If you do end up taking a trip out this way, give me a holler.

Post it here, you will be able to sell it easily. Folks part cars and make three times that parting cars that are probably not as nice as what you are selling.

Please don't part it out. If we keep parting cars there will be none left on the road.

Craigslist, on here don't trade it for $500.00 thats giving money away. You should be able to get $1500.00 for a halfway decent car that runs and drives.

I'd light my own body on fire before I gave away a thirdgen, any model in any condition, for $500. That's what, one pay period working a minimum wage job?

Re: Does 500$ sound right for a trade in?
Thanks for the advice. I actually sold the car yesterday for 3K. The buyer is coming to pick it up today. Its a very bittersweet moment. My youngest son actually cried when they took it for a test drive and then I started to get a little upset also. I am gonna let the buyer know about the site. He's a young kid and him and his grand pa are going to work on the car together. This will be the first time since I was able to drive with out owning an fbody.

Good to hear you sold the car. I sold my Infinity that the dealership said was worth $300 for $2500 so never believe what they offer.

Re: Does 500$ sound right for a trade in?
Car dealers are in the business to make money on both ends when they take a trade and when they sell a car. The only time ill trade a car in is if it has headaches I don't want to deal with and would feel bad sticking another private party with. If you trade that car in for $500 it will end up on a lot somewhere advertised as a rare IROCZ for $4000. Im with the crowd that thinks you should advertise it here or craigslist yourself. You should be able to get $1500 for it if it runs and drives fine.

Thanks! Didn't see the post above. Glad to hear he got a fair price for it. I would take a torch to my car before i ever let a dealer rip me off like that.

Glad he got a decent fair price! Getting hard to find these cars. Hell a few parts off one are worth the $500 they was wanting to give him.
