-- SOLD -- 87 Iroc Race Car - NASA Cage
-- SOLD --
1987 IROC-Z hard top
This car was built specifically to NASA Rally Sport rules. I think it would make a great road race car too. Possibly even drag race but I expect it might be a little heavy for the average drag racing cage. This would also be a good car for rally cross or auto cross..
Currently has a very mild 350 with Edelbrock 600. Rally racing requires more reliability than horsepower.
T56 six speed transmission
9-bolt rear end
heim-joint fully adjustable lower control arms and panhard bar
Monroe shocks
stock Iroc springs with 1/2" thick lift spacers
new brakes
- - - basically the drive train is nothing special but full of good or new very reliable parts - - -
sub frame connectors fully welded into the floor pan
cage is 1-3/4 x .095 DOM tubing
sheet metal dash
new wiring harness
hand brake
Sparco (FIA rated) seats
6-point harnesses
skid plate under engine & tranny
front and rear tow hooks
spare tire mount
Price & options are negotiable. I would like to sell the car as a whole or as a rolling chassis so I can keep my motor and transmission. I would like to sell it with the rally specific race tires but if you want to make this a road race car instead, I have other wheels and tires that can be used instead. $6000.
The reason I'm selling is because I put a ton of money into this car and can never seem to make the time to go to any races. There are not many races close to me.
Thanks for looking!

Re: 87 Iroc Race Car - NASA Cage
I built the cage myself. I am a 41 year old mechanical engineer that grew up and lives on a farm. I have a very good understanding of materials and a ton of welding/fabricating experience. I have only built one other cage but have done a lot of cage repairs on other rally cars. Pictures were taken at each step of the cage build and sent to one of the "scrutineers" for NASA Rally Sport to be approved. One catch is that I do not have a log book. The scrutineer that I was working with was sick the day of the one race I took it to so he did not see the cage in person. He approved it over the phone and other NASA Rally Sport officials looked it over and approved it to race but to get the log book, it must be checked in person by one of the scrutineers.

Re: 87 Iroc Race Car - NASA Cage
Just thought I'd had a few recent pics and note the wheels in the previous pics are 16" Irocs with Blizzak snow tires. It currently has 15" Z28 wheels with actual rally racing tires. Four of them are for gravel and I have two more cut for muddy conditions. I would sell the car with either set or both for a little extra money.

Re: 87 Iroc Race Car - NASA Cage
Really nice car, very interested in it. I have a couple questions. Does it have rear disc brakes? Also does it have heat or ac? I assume it probably doesn't looking at the dash, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Last question, is it road worthy enough to drive from Indiana to new jersey?
Thanks,
David

Re: 87 Iroc Race Car - NASA Cage
It does have rear disc brakes.
It does not have heat or ac. In one pic you can see a fan under the dash and holes to vent so it works as a defroster but that's all.
It is road worthy enough to drive that far, however, I'm not sure I would. With no interior and heim joint suspension, the road noise is pretty bad. Also, either tire choice I have posted wouldn't be the best for long distance road use right now but I do have another set of 15" wheels with good street tires on them if you wanted to go that way. I suppose with a set of ear plugs, it might be a fun drive. The racing seats are actually pretty comfortable.
