WTB/WTT my 99 white/white leather M6 Z -->Cheap T5 Camaro for LS1/T56 Swap in SE IL?
I have my dream Camaro, a 1999 white on white leather Z28 M6 with the factory ground effects. I installed QTP stainless steel long lube headers and dual electric cutouts (also QTP). No cats or any of that stuff. If you hang out in the LS1 world (such as LS1Tech.com), you'll know that QTP/Kooks are the highest dollar/best quality headers on the market. At the same time I installed an LS6 intake and a clear air induction lid (MTI) that always gets a comment every time I open the hood wheather or not they even know much about cars. The first thing I did was put a B&M short throw shifter and shortened shifter on it with a white Hurst shift ball. I had driven a few of these cars before mine and loved the feel of someone else's, so I knew right off the bat I wanted that. It's so low, only the **** is above the console.
I know, I know, "This thread is worthless without pics!" I don't have any pics and that's a bad thing. They got deleted off the server. Shame on me and I'm sorry. I can get some real soon if this thread gains interest.
But, I'm not even sure at all that I even want to trade or sell my car. Honestly, my life would be a lot easier if I didn't have a car payment. I'm single and live alone and don't make that much money. What I do make I spend on my car. The rest is wasted.
It just seems like I had more fun when I had a junker that I didn't really care too much about. I live in a rural county with lots of back roads. I'm pretty hard on these cars.
I LOVE the LS1 and T56 though. But, I like the 3rd gen body style. I guess I'm keeping my eye open for an 305 M5 car that is laser straight (no wreks) -- doesn't pull even a hair on the road at any speed.
Don't care about paint quality. In fact, I'm a "Primer is Finer" guy. But, I like white, red, dark blue and black colors, in that order. Don't like green. Had a dark blue Camaro V6 that I put a junk 350 down in. Don't even know what year it was 'cause I never had the title! It was an early 3rd gen though.
I'll probably yank the seats out and replace with racing ones.
Mine is a well-used 109,xxx-mile car, but mechanically, everything is flawless. Engine is so strong and sounds sooo bad *** with those cut outs open a little bit. Closed, sounds almost stock. With them half open or so, it's so loud that you have to yell above it. All the way open? Same as open headers -- windows rattle, ears need covered, can't even yell over it. She roars.
Clutch has less than 10,000 miles on it, maybe as little as 4-6,000. SPEC 3+ kit/flywheel with 2002 hydraulics. LOVE it. NO chatter. Feels like stock, but good for way, way more horsepower than this car has. i drove this car in Miami, Springfield, Indianapolis, St. Louis, etc. and didn't have a problem in the heaviest traffic. Two years ago, bone stock (at 86,000 miles), I drove it to Florida from Illinois and got 26.8 mpg, but I think it's running a bit rich now after all the work. A tune alone would do wonders for the car and wake up ~20 rwhp maybe. But, I'm not too worried about it.
The front driver's seat is rough, though. Bolster's not torn yet, but it will be soon no doubt. Neither are in real great condition, but the back ones are basically flawless. Paint is okay. A few rock chips here and there. Chip in the door where I got pissed and opened it too hard. Headlights need polished real bad. It has the good Z28 wheels, the chrome 5-spokes. Only better wheels stock were the ZR1's in my opinion.
Paid ~$10K for it a couple years ago and put ~$4,000 in parts in it or more. Just to put up an asking price, I'll throw out $11,000. Like I say, I don't know if I want to sell it at all. Two months ago I turned down a $9,000 offer in person.
Raced all kinds of 350 3rd gens on the street. Never had a very close race, even against a cammed/geared/stalled/TH 350 one, but i never raced an N2O one. Faster than stock Mustang GTs of any kind that I've ever raced, including a 2005 stick-and-kick. Both from dig and roll.
My next move is a dry kit, then cam kit, then I'm done.
If you're close to 62439 in South-East Illinois and have a good, straight, 305/M5 project car and would like to sell for real cheap or trade for my car plus cash, give me a reply. I suppose I'd go 45 min to see and drive it. It's summer and these cars are fun to drive. I wouldn't ask anyone to go out of their way or make time for an undsure tire-kicker like me. If you've looking to go with an LS1-year 4th get and have some cash and a car you think I might want to trade for, drop me a reply.
I'm not interested in a auto car of any kind, and I have a real superstition against changing transmission type or color. If you call me crazy, you're right.

Oh, and as for the title, The first thing I'll probably do is yank the engine and tranny and start swapping in an LS1/T56. But, the car has to run and drive as-is because it will be my daily driver for the months that I collect parts to do the swap.
Thanks.

You would never even consider an auto?
I have an 83Z that I love to death, but I really want an LS1/T-56 combo and probably wouldn't be able to swap that into my car for quite a while..
Mine needs work, which it sounds like you want to do. It runs great though, just put a new carb on it a week ago. I daily drove it for a year and a half.
It's just a 305, but it's not terrible. It has 17" Eagle 211's wrapped in BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDWS 245/45Zr17's.
New carpet for the interior is on the way, just shipped today actually...
I love my car to death and the only way I could consider getting rid of it would be to a person that I know would treat it well.

Nope. I'm not interested at all in automatic daily drivers. Pure drag race, they rule. But I have to have a clutch and shifter for my DD.
I like the 305/T5 cars. Friend had a head/cam/carb one and it was a lot of fun. I'm just a big fan of the LSx/T56. It's what I have now.
EDIT: And furthermore, I'm not looking for a "nice car," other than straight. High miles, wore out carpet, tore up seats, faded paint... That's the car for me! One I can jump in and tear off through the grass field and down the gravel road grabbing gears as fast as I can!
