In response to zcotter19:
Thanks for the leads!
about your manual swap-
First, a little history: the Borg-Warner T-5 manual trans in our f-bodies was only offered in the 305ci and not in the 350 (as in your '90 on Craigs) because it was not strong enough to handle the power output of the 350 (225hp, 330tq), even though GM wanted a competitor to the stick 5 in the Mustang. If you are determined to have a stick, the swap is relatively easy and i can do it. However, a more popular alternative is to take the Borg-Warner t56 six-speed manual from a fourthgen F-body (also used in the Viper
) and swap it in behind your 350. the swap is as easy as the t-5, and ive done it before (twice, actually) If you are planning for more power, i would definately recommend the t56, and even if you arent, it is better performance for approximately the same price
As for cost and parts..
A used t-5 from a local scrapyard is approx $700 500-1000 depending on where you buy, and you will need the brake/clutch assy, the master cylinder and clutch/flywheel assy, and bellhousing With the t-5 to t56 swap being popular, im sure some thirdgenners have their old t-5 to give away for a reasonable price. I have one from a swap, but its a little too beat up
as for the t-56, it will be a little more (approx 900-1000) because you need Everything from the donor car (brake/clutch assy, the master cylinder and clutch/flywheel assy, a little wiring, and bellhousing). I will need to fabricate a new crossmember, no big deal, and rewire the car to the new trans (again, easy) Either way, expect it to be under 2k, probs 1500-1700 depending on where you find your parts, and how drunk the guy at the scrapyard is
if u want to know more, there are several articles on both swaps in the tech forum, it being a very popular mod
If u want a schedule, you can call me on my cell (774-823-5798), im fairly busy now but i should have time soon
Whatever you do, good luck!
