[CT] Orange IROC WANTED

Orange IROC WANTED
I've heard that my orange IROC has been seen around Willimantic Ct in the last year or two. I'm looking to get in touch with the owner of the car to discuss buying it back. I've regretted selling the car ever since circumstances forced me to and it would mean the world to me to be able to get my car back. To prove I actually am the previous owner I offer the following information...
1988 Chevy Camaro
Badges (inside and out) say Z28 / IROC - VIN will show that the car is in fact a RS / Sport Coupe
Car was originally an automatic - I swapped a T5 into it with a Hurst short-throw shifter
Car was originally maroon with gold trim - was painted a custom bright orange, with pearl and metal flake with white stripes over the hood / deck
Interior was originally tan, is now black
Car was originally a 305 TBI, was replaced with a 355 and an Edelbrock carb
Rear axle was replaced with a Moser 12 bolt with a True-Trac and 3.73 gears
Car had Lakewood lower rear control arms
Car used to burn oil (I suspect a cylinder or 2 had bad rings)
Car has a grant steering wheel
Heater box / ac equipment has been removed from the engine bay
Car has the "wonderbar" which an RS / Sport Coupe would not
Car has the roof console with map light, sunglass holster, and flashlight (which was missing)
Car was registered in CT before I traded it to Scranton Motors approximately 5 years ago.
I could go on and on.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you have any information about the current (or even previous) owner of the car - email me. Even if they aren't willing to sell, I need to try to get the car back before I replace it with another IROC.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Orange IROC WANTED
Right now the car has to sit for the summer. I've got a 347 stroker build that I'm in the middle of for the Mustang (also mine). Yeah, I'm automotive bi-polar...
Long term plans...
- Gut interior, dynamat entire thing, reassemble with new switches and retro-radio w/iPod jack
- Rebuild tranny (G-Force?)
- New heads / cam on the motor (I built this motor 12 years ago when I was in highschool!)
- New Z-rated tires
Look for a well-documented build thread when this all starts. I lost all my pictures from the first go-round, so I'm going to be a paparazzi this time!

Cool, and congrats on finding your old car! Just repaint it, we don't need any more orange IROCs here

But really, I painted mine in 2003.
So, how did you find it? Did you see it and just talk to the owner? Was it for sale? Good thing you had cash when you found it!

Re: Orange IROC WANTED
Yeah, we shot the car in the winter of 2002 after I graduated highschool, so lets just say we're tied. haha. Funny thing is, at the time, there was another guy in my town with an IROC that he painted orange - but it was a Maaco job...and not a good one.
The story goes like this...
I was hunting for another 3rd gen for the last 2 months. Looked at a lot of dogs, came close to buying a couple, but it always fell apart at the last minute for some strange reason. (One guy said "my young son won't let me sell it" / another car turned out to have a smoked transmission).
The last car I looked at was last Thursday - it belonged to a TGO member in Ashford CT. While we were talking I mentioned the "one that got away" and he told me that he sees the car all the time in Willimantic. The next day I headed to the NAPA in Willimantic to put up a "WANTED" flyer. (I also put up this ad, as well as one on Craigslist).
Half way to NAPA I drove past this busted up junkyard and happened to get a glimpse of bright orange. I slammed my brakes on and pulled in. The guy was out picking parts for his other vehicle (luckily my Camaro wasn't there for scrap!). When he came out I explained my history with the car and asked if he would consider selling it - he said yes and within the hour I had cut him a check and signed the papers for the car. The next morning I was at the DMV at 7 AM to get plates, and drove her home.
For the most part, the car doesn't look any different than it did back then. He tagged a curb with the front bumper, so I have a repaint to do - but my paint guy has all the mix codes on file (LUCKY!!). The kicker is that this guy paid $9000 for the car, then paid $5500 over 3 years to store it since she would never pass emissions. I bought it back for $7000.
I'm itching for fall to come so I can start digging into the refresh. Right now I'm on the tail-end of a motor swap for the Mustang though, so I've got to finish the first project before starting the next.
The goal is to have 2 12-second show cars.
