Re: Need help, 92 camaro build.

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see youre trying to save the car BUT do you expect other people to foot the money for this? Your gofundme page shows a $10K goal!!! Each one of us here goes through the same life and bills as you and we manage to either save a little on the side, get a second side job or just put that project on hold until funds become available. I just think asking for hand outs is pretty lame.

Re: Need help, 92 camaro build.

you'd probably be better off asking to work in a junkyard part-time for free parts? i know people that have done it.
IDK what else to say?
i raised 4 kids and have custody of a grandaughter. always worked hard, had a "penny budget", figured out how to do stuff myself.
maybe get in with a local bunch of hot rodders, help out with something, and they might donate parts?
but asking for money had me cracking up, lol.
if anybody else is reading this,...i need money too!
best of luck.

Re: Need help, 92 camaro build.

I understand asking for help, but asking poor people for money doesn't work because no matter how sympathetic they feel, they have nothing to give, besides advice. And if they are poor, their advice will make you poor also.
Asking the wealthy doesn't work because they are unsympathetic. A few might help you if they can figure out away to make it profit them first. And that's unlikely if you don't have good credit. If you do have good credit, then read the Rich Dad, Poor Dad series. The guy wanted a new Porsche, so instead of buying one, he built storage sheds and rented them out, then used the profit from them to pay for the new Porsche. So then he had 2 new assets rather than a new liability.
It all starts with good credit. Build it up, use it wisely. It's a slow, difficult, painful, and frustrating process. But within 2 years you'll be ahead of just saving , and within 3 years you'll be into assets rather than liabilities, IF you use credit wisely.
Letting the car wait for3 years is difficult, I know from experience. But within 4 years, the car should be nicer and faster than if you just spend every spare dollar on it for 4 years.
Get a secured card that reports to all 3 credit reporting agencies, direct deposit all your earnings into it, pay it off every month with your earnings, and within a year you should qualify for an unsecured card.
Then charge that up to 1/3 of its limit every month, and pay that off every month, even if what you're charging is rent, or gasoline, or food, whatever.
Within a year of that, they should let you borrow as much as $10K. That won't be enough to let you build a storage facility, but invest it in something. Safe = low yield. High-ROI investments are more risky.

Re: Need help, 92 camaro build.

Seth,
What you seem to fail to understand is that the responses were not "putting you down for trying" but were putting you down for expecting to get (or asking to get) something for nothing.
That has no bearing on whether you already are working hard but more the fact that you figured you were "owed" something because you didn't have enough.
That is exactly like saying to your boss "I will work hard after you pay me more" rather than feeling that you need to work as hard as you can and then you will get more because you deserve it.

To some extent, this isn't totally wrong. Like feeding someone who can't work but contributes something else anyway. But applied to fixing up a Camaro, I agree.

That's seldom true anymore, but it's a bad analogy because there's nothing gained by funding a guy with a car. Single moms getting funded to fix a 4-door economy car because they have a really good "sob-story" is very different from wanting to make a sporty car into a Corvette chaser.
If you want to make the car pay for itself, then figure out some good, effective mods you can sell copies of cheaply. Or make some good movies of your progress, hope people like it as much as Top Gear or Roadkill. Offering entertainment has value, look at Jay Leno.
