Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

I am up in Fort Smith NWT population 2600 working on some really old diesel stand by generators. The one I am working on right now is a 12 cylinder 2000 hp made in 1976. The other one I have to work on next week is a 16 cylinder 3000 hp. They also have a 18 cylinder 4000 hp but I am really glad I dont have to work on that. These are Alco engines and these one were made in montreal at the montreal locomotive works.

My borrowed ride is a new ford 550 with a giant flat deck on the back. My wife called and said she was driving my kids around to school and stores in my camaro.........

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Hey guys just got back from the north with a pile of cash to burn.

Just put in yesterday a powermaster alternator and a optima battery. The battery is kind of sittting half assed in there. Any words of wisdon to get the battery sitting arite would be cool.

Also put in while I was at 4x6 and 6x9 infinty speakers to go with my alpine stereo. Later on I'll add more stuff to the audio system like an amp and a sub as well.

Shopping around for 4 new tires as well.

With in a couple of weeks I am gonna put in some street worthy shocks and looking at some kby"s. As need to replace the top mounts on the freont struts.

ANyways spent yesterday with my sons cruising around shopping for car stuff which is always cool

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Hey guys, i've got a nasty driveline vibration that i'm trying to track down.
I'd like to borrow another set of wheels/tires to see if that's the problem.

Is anyone out there willing to trade me wheels for a day? Or just let me borrow their set of 4 to take it around the block (err, and on the highway up to 100km/hr or so?).

Let me know, thanks

hmmm if you can't get any tires get the balance checked out at a tire shop.

take the tires off yourself and bring em in it maybe cheaper.

I'd loan you mine but I am in mexico on a job at the moment

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Yea, i'm taking the car down to see a buddy at the kal tire on 52nd st SE. Get the front end aligned, and check all 4 wheels balance. I had it redone last year and the thing still shook, so I don't think that's it, but I can't be sure...

could be the u joint had plenty of vibes on those on just a little bit of wear.

maybe a bent drive shaft, or axle or the axle flange could be out just the slightest bit.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Nah, I had the wheels rebalanced, had the driveshaft balanced, and nothing.

I want to try different wheels first. I'm not sure these wheels fit the axles well enough? The tire shop mentioned that. I'm grasping at straws, but I want to try that before I check the runout on the axle shaft ends.

Still feel like loaning me some wheels sometime? Let me know.

Have you done any mods to bring on your vibration or did it just start on its own?

I used to work at that kal actually. I'm at the one off barlow north by 16th now. Hated that shop, but that's beside the point. If you had posted that a few weeks earlier I had my car on jackstands with the wheels off at work, but I sold the tires and it's sitting on the old skins from my sunflower, not balanced and guaranteed to vibrate. I think a friend of mine still has the set off my old car though, I'll check with him if I get a chance.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Damn, it took until now for me to get any reminders about this thread...

I have it up on jackstands now, and "drove" it up to 110km/hr. Shook. Took of the wheels, tried it again, it shook.
Tried swapping in axles from the JY, but my disc brakes wouldn't bolt up to the drum axles
I've got a vibration expert coming by on saturday morning with an analyzer to try and narrow down the source here... Boy I can't wait until I get this figured out...

Tommy, you work for Dustin at that Kal tire on 52nd st then?

You have 4.56 gears in it?!? Holy cow man, really?

It's good to see another member from the calgary area. Unfortunately most of the members here are deathly quiet on this forum.

I've done a fair bit to my '82 Trans-am, check out sig.
What are the specs on your dart heads?

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

I can't tell if the post i sent went with the pictures or not ( i can't even see the post ), but ive got an 84 drag firebird which is giving up its 4.56's and cage, the 88 firebird (ex 2.8 5 speed car ) which i'm putting that stuff in, plus my s.b.c. in, and then a coupe of camaro's (just parts). Hopefully all these parts combined will have me in the 11's if the 5 speed holds up, or if I can come up with the cash for a TKO 500. The darts are a 220 runner i beleive, due to extensive porting, 2.02-or 2.05/1.6, not sure of comb chamber size, they have been shaved, (somewhere ive got a binder on what exactly has been done). The story behind them was they were on a N/A, alcohol 377, 780hp, ran 9's in a vega. Some whiz in Manitoba where that 377 was built ported the **** out of them to flow 400cfm to get them to work with the cam, some high 600, low 700 grind that worked at 4000-8000rpm. The bottom end gave up the ghost, and the top end and cam was put in the 350 I have by the previous owner. he ended up putting 1.6 rockers on and the wrong lenght push rods, and with the wrong geometry the rockers started wearing on the valve spring retainers. A guy could get away with using them as is probably (The guy couldn't do a valve set good enough to be driven anywhere), long story short, I just decided to go with some out of the box alum heads.

oh holy cow.
Those *might* have ports slightly bigger than I could use, hahaha, good luck though.

yea, I think 11's will be hard to hit with a T5, you'll blow the thing apart! You have 4.56 gears in a 10 bolt 7.5" though eh? That's impressive!

What's done to the '88 bird so far? Still totally stock?

Yo Sonix am on almost every night espacially when I am on the road
My new garage is going up so this year I will have it wired heated and dry walled and then I will start my iroc project.

I am thinking of buying an L31-r long block and putting in either a lt1 or lt4 hot cam.... keeping my tbi an
d going with ebl to tune it. I would'nt mind a slightly rough idle and 300 hp to the wheels

wadda ya think?

Hey Crew, new to the site here also, we'll been lurking around for a bit.
I'm up in the Red Deer Area just starting to muck around with the new project.

So far the site looks good and have gotten some decent info.

88 GTA, at the body and paint stage, Runs good and hard with 113,000 km on her.

Look foward to yaking with you all as I work my way around this old girl.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

The only stuff ive done to the bird so far are new t-top seals/bar/ gutted the interior to get ready for the cage, and GTA wheels, and some feirro seats for now. I'm working on an old 2" twin turbo hood that used to be on my race car, but I'm going to graft a 2nd gen camaro scoop on it and cut it up to look like the late 90's SS camaro scoop. Should give me the room i need to fit the mighty mouse. Soon the 4.56's should be in, but i'd like to wait to get some tubular lca's and panhard bar. we'll see.

Nope, but I did. I'm actually on my third kal store. I started at the marlborough one two years ago, once the winter rush died down they sent me down south, to dustin's store. but I got fed up with that place, quit (and thus missed out on that profit share you get after a year), and ended up at the one I'm at now.
Oh, and the wheels on my car would have vibrated on yours anyway. I stuck them on the balancer last night and it asked for 6-8 ounces per wheel... I need new ones.
at least I know a place that sells things like wheels and tires...

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Hey boys I a little rough with the Iroc today and I am pretty sure I popped the rear tranny mount. Will take a look to make sure but I went through this before with another Camaro I had before and the symptom are the same...floor it at low speed and huge thump coming from the floor...LOL

Anyways I want to get a new mount I plan on eventually switching everything I can to polyurathane bushings and mounts.

I'd like to know if you guys had any issues with ordering any parts from these online stores in the states and whats the process to get these parts in the country.

Also if you guys can recomend any good quality brands it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Jason

duderjay - I use summit for just about everything. Rockauto is the best for factory replacement parts (like partssource, but cheaper and everything is in stock...)
I just ordered calipers for my DD ($60 with pads for the front, for both sides), and a speedo cable for my TA ($6), can't find it locally...

I have poly all around on my car, and LOVE the feeling. Haven't installed the a-arm ones yet, but they're coming.

anyone want to loan me wheels this coming week or weekend? I just need 'em for a few hours...

Sonix If I am around this week end I can loan you the four wheels off my car for a couple of hours. But I don't have a garage or spare wheels

The tires are new this summer not even 600 km on them and all balanced pm me if you think you want to swing it.

Also do you still have those lower control arms (rear) and if so what brand are they.

I got a new trans mount for 10 bucks and what a cheap pieace of s**t *ss rubber I can't believe it. I still haven't put it on yet I am too busy to drive the car out to cochrane to do it at the shop

hey duder,
Did I mention lower control arms? I have a spare set of stock ones that I boxed, painted, and put poly bushings into....
why didn't you get the poly trans mount for $20 from Mopac? nickels and dimes difference in price...

I've got a single car garage, parking pad, 3 jacks, 7 stands, etc. We could make it work over at my place. I just need to get my rocker stud problem fixed up first, then put the rear end back together. Shouldn't be a problem.

I'll let you know if I get the car back together in time.

yo sonix I gotta head up to the Brazeau river area to trouble shoot two engines. I am hoping it will be short and sweet and be back by friday I'll give you a heads up.

I'll buy some lca's off of summit or sphon maybe even moopac although they really pissed me off today in trying to order the trans mount.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Yeah been into bikes for a long time. I have stayed away from the fast street bikes though ..trying to prolong my life expectancy

Been keeping to the dirt bikes, but recently been bit by it too. I got a real nice tricked out YZ290 for sale if you need one

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

lol I am staying away from bikes for a bit. When I lived in Cartagena Colombia I had a 250 virago vee twin. It had fake 2 to 2 pipes it actuall went two into a 2.5 inch pipe but it looked like it had 2 striaght pipes. also had saddle bags and those braids hanging off the handle bars. I loved screaming in the old city in those narrow streets on that thing man it was loud. set off car alarms I see all the lights going off in my mirrors. plus the ripping around on the beaches was cool.

Hey all, it's been a while. How are ya?

Anyone know what's happening to my old t/a? Apparently it's undergoing quite the transformation... I'd sure love to see what the new owner is doing to it.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

so Ive got all the parts together to get the 4.56's in now, but I have the interior out and realized the tubs are rotten where the outer and inner tubs meet. I had some what of a mini tub in mind, but you can't really go to much farther in then they already are. The only thing i was thinking was to square them up a little, for a taller tire. I want to run 28x11.5 drag radials, with some lowering spring, only 1" or so, but who knows how far it will settle. Does anyone have any ideas, or has done something like this. I'm going to try as much as possible to keep the interior panels in it. Also does anyone have a drive shaft loop installed near the back of the car with pics, my race car had one but it was only about a foot from the trans, seems a little silly being that close.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

What good does it do if it's at the back?
If the rear u-joint snaps, the DS slides out of the trans, falls on the ground, car slows down, leaks ATF out, and you stop. Whoopie. No big deal.
If it breaks at the front, the driveshaft (still mounted to the rear end), flips down, hits the cement, and POLE VAULTS the car. Extremely dangerous.
That's why they mount them at the front.

As far as squaring up the wells, I am not sure, having never done it. Stephen87iroc is in calgary, and has fully tubbed his car.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

makes sense. I thought exploding the u-joint would be more popular than sheering the drive shaft up front, I just thought to keep the shaft from bouncing off the track... but then it would just fall out... duh, i guess i'll mount it where I found it, good to know.

i'll let you know when i've got it running... you keeping yours insured/running all winter by chance?

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

Hey, have not posted in a while, progess is coming pretty good. Mini tub is started, the car will run on 335's next year when the wheels get widened, for now it has 17's with 285/40's in the rear and 245/45's up front. changed the bumpers to an 84, with home made aluminum grills. once the new tubs are in, the new rear end is painted and awaiting install. The tubs take up where the rear seat belt mount went, so no rear seat, which is fine cause it would be gay to climb over the cage when its in. Need to rebuild my eng next. thinking of sleeving the motor, needs to be machined anyways. heres some pics, i will update with tub pics soon, for now is some pics of a camaro with the same idea of the mini tub.

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

heres some pics with wheels on before the old rear came out. I put a picture on paint and widened the hides to see how it would look. Its a cheap *** version of photo shop but it gets the job done. Maybe i won't have a traction issue

Re: Anyone from Calgary Alberta

hey anybody alive in here LOL

I was in Saudi Arabia on a job, and now finally have some time off to do the electrical in my new garage.... 1 240 v 40 amp outlet over my work bench...1 240 v outlet 30 amp for my compressor.... 1 15 amp 110 v outlet at the bench and then 5 more on three walls plus 2 110 v outlets in the cielling. 60 amp service running into the garage. Also 5 4 ft flourescent lights

Garage is 22 by 24 ft 9 ft walls and have storage trusses with retractable ladder. will be insulating and dry walling and running a nat gas heater.

I will be building and welding up my own work bench then I will be working in my camaro. Also have plans to put a water cooler and coffee machine in there too. Lots of planning going into this.......
