How much is this worth?

Wasnt quit sure where to put this. But i am considering buying this car. Guy says he will not go lower then $7000 CAD and i just wanted some opionons.

Hey says "Hi there, I build custom F-bodys and I have a 1 owner 1991 Black Z28 with 168,000 km and a 305 TPI factory roller motor. It has a 3 year old $3000.00 paint job and a brand new $1600.00 700R4 Auto Trans with a 1850 Stall just a bit bigger then stock. as stock as possible and I have the bill of sale and many other rare items with the car. It is also a T-top car and has the Lexan Plexiglass T-top option as well. Polished factory 16x8's and it had seat covers since day one and they were removed for the first time when I got it. Always garage kept and not driven in the rain very often. I was asking more for it a few months back but I'm looking at the $7500.00 range for it now. Many items like the grill and fog lights replaced with brand new NOS GM as the get foggy and I'm picky to say the least. Email back or send me your address and I will send you some pics."

Heres some pics..

Wheels will not be coming with the car (unless i can convince him hehe)

Thanks

I do not think it is worth 7k. Maybe $5,000 with the wheels. It is very nice though.

Re: How much is this worth?

Definately. It is very very clean. I can see why you would want it. It is worth what someone is willing to pay. If it is worth it in your opinion then get it. I guess it depends on how picky you are on color, year...etc.

Re: How much is this worth?

I agree ..5K seems a bit more realistic given the mileage on the car..but it does look good. I'd have to see what these other "rare parts" are and what other upgrades have been done before I'd say the 7K was justified. I know Cam_maro.. (think that's who it is..the guy in missouri) has a 91Z28 with like 96k on it that he wants just under 10 grand for. Fully worth is when you look at all the performance upgrades he's done to it. If he lived a bit closer I would be taking it off his hands

Re: How much is this worth?

I say it's worth it if looks that good all over plus if the owner put some money into it that's not a bad thing. 91 camaro's are pretty nice car, probably the best year for the 3rd gen camaro anyways

Re: How much is this worth?

thats a nice ride, and $7K is not a bad asking price (with all the proof/receipts), also don't forget that these cars are harder to find (especially in such nice cond) in Canada vs. the american posts made ^^^ suggesting $5K

Re: How much is this worth?

Some good photos of the bottom would help clear up how much it is worth... Top like that with a clean bottom is worth the 7 k...

Re: How much is this worth?

I went out and checked the car out. Overall i really like it but there are quite a few minor things wrong with it.

- Passenger mirror is messed up (guy says he can fix before sale)
- Passenger Ground effects looks like its coming off a lil at the top (guy says he can fix before sale)
- Metal around the rear hatch glass needs to be painted (prolly an easy fix)
- Rear bumper has a few scratches on it (don't really care)
- Lexan T-Tops Look horrible
- T-Top seals hang down a bit so you have to open windows to close doors
- Trans has a manual chip in it so the shift light comes up in the dash all the time
- Steering column is a little wobbly
- Has semi racing tires in the back so driving in the rain would be even worse then driving a camaro with normal tires lol
- Needs shocks soon

What do you guys think? I realize that any older car i buy will have problems. I just don't want to pay top dollar for one that has lots. He still wont go lower then 7k

Re: How much is this worth?

The important thing when buying an old car (and all of these are) is the mechanical condition and rust. As well, depending on where you live, the availablity of these cars. The guys quoting $5K are all in the US, not Canada. Canada you will pay more just because these cars are harder to find and the dollar factor.

If you add the cost of a "road trip" and the hassle of bringing a car across the Canadian border (and the later years have certain special and hard to find equipment like Daytime Running Lights and Child Restraint Belts that were not offered on US models thus you cannot import them without finding that equipment - but you must check into it VERY CAREFULLY before importing...so C$7K could be a bargain compared to US$5K for a rarer high end model).

Other than "trailer trash and rust buckets", I seldom see any good Third Gens on the road any more where I live and I live in an area of 100,000 people.

And lastly, many of the parts are now discontinued and no longer readily available in junk yards, especially parts for the higher end Camaros and Firebirds. Be prepared for "anything and everything" needing fixing.

Re: How much is this worth?

what does he mean by rare parts? lol, i dunno man, befor u buy it, get it jacked up somewhere and have a mechanic tell u what exatcly u need to fix right away, and then go from there. 7k is alot of money to throw around without looking under the car.

Re: How much is this worth?

in my opinion, a car with that milege and not original paint AND those rims...prolly isnt worth $7k, if you ARe around the toronto area...look around some more, there are some prettty nice cars, theres a guy over on www.ccfbg.com who's got a 3rd Gen Camaro, which is WELL worth the 8000 he's asking...and it looks gorgeous..heres a link to his ad

http://ccfbg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6903

now im not saying go for THAT car...but the car you're looking at doesnt seem worth it for $7000 with those issues.. if it was me and i was paying that much...id want a car i could eat out of...also plus being that the guy said he was picky, for you to find OBVIOUS issues that he said he would fix doesnt seem right...if he was picky about foggy headlights ... why wouldnt he be picky about the mirror and GFX...

Hmmm...for a seller who's "picky to say the least," he sure let a lot of things go unfixed on the car and undisclosed in the description. A wobbly steering column, for heaven's sake! I'm willing to bet there are other problems you didn't see. I would not trust him and certainly would not pay $7K. JMO

Re: How much is this worth?

7k is not to much for a clean car , that is IF its rust free... thses cars were daily drivers most of them , and i tried to find a clean on and i found out very quickly that peoples idea of rust free is that rust isnt in plain site ... i flew out to new brunswick to buy a totally rust free 86 with 86000 for 5200. what a deal eh?... well let me tell you ..after driving 2 hours to toronto , then a 2 hour flight to moncton, i get to see the "rust free" car ... well what a p.o.s. theres was rot in spots , but from a distance it looked good , so i ended up getting one from the states, i wanted one that was older than 88 so i could avoud the e-test crap.. so i got one out of new hampsure , 84 z28 with 58,000 original miless, 5.0. H.O.,5spd , t-tops, every conceivable option, i picked it up for $4900 by the time i got it home i figure i spent $6000 , and its bone stock.. as far as getting them accross the border for me it was too simple.. since it was 25 years old all that was needed was to pay the taxes,, i didnt ever notify the border 72 hours before.. the only thing i learned was this .. and this is VERY important !!!! when i picked up this car i got the title ,certificate of registration and a bill of sale .. BUT the title was in another persons name ... i find out that atleast in some states when a car gets to a certain age they no longer issue new titles, they just change the certificate of registration, which if you live in the staes it aint a problem ,,BUT if you are candian its a big problem , wwhat they want on this end is to see a trail of ownership, so from the name on the title a series of reciepts and certificates of registration from owner to owner till the person you purchased it from ,, i was lucky that my guy was only the second owner, so he had a receipt from the person on the title , but i have heard of guys buying cars and thhere being numerous owners , try finding that mess out , and if you cant trace it back you have a bonified track/ parts car , or drag it back over the border and sell it there.. so heed this warning when buying state side... i was one lucky s.o.b. but there are deals to be had ...
