Does anyone have a line on a good place to buy Eclipse CD head units? I'm looking specifically at either last years 55430 or this years CD5442. Their availablity on the net is nonexistant and the prices at local specialty shops is basically MSRP which is rediculous.

Any (only) online businesses that say they carry Eclipse are bogus.
Call eclipse yourself they only sell at store fronts.
www.eclipse-web.com or 1800.233.2216
Don't get taken!

Ya, that's pretty much what I've found. If you do a web search, the only thing online vendors seem to carry are Eclipse subs and amps. Noone carries HUs. I'm sure it's a good quality control policy, but it's also a good price fixing policy, as retail shops charge full MSRP since there really no fear of competition. Ifd you want Eclipse........you PAY.

Oh well. I think I might try Alpine's new CDA-7897. Looks like a nice piece.

Alpine also does not sell through online dealers...their only authorized dealers are storefronts such as Circuit City. Be careful, if it breaks your only recourse would be to send it back to the web-based business where you got it from, and you never know when one of these may just fold.

just look for clearance sells in stores. A friend of mine here at school got the 8051 for $450.

I wouldn't mind getting the 8061...but my p1r is good enough, for now.
