need stock 92 head unit pic & dash speakers q

Just got a camaro Thursday and I got a few questions.

Whats the stock head unit look like?

Im gonna hopefully be having the dash out in the next week or so so I figured it be a good time to put some better quality speakers in there while they are accessable.

Anyone have any suggestions? Im not into booming loudness, I prefere clear crisp quality. But I dont want to spend a fortune on them either, so say around the $100 range max. Or is that not enough??

Thanks.

ehh, the stock headunit if i can remember has two ***** on the left side, a cassette deck, display above the cassette and 5 preset buttons.

The dash is easy to take apart for speakers. Theres 4 screws on top on the defroster vent, and about 9 screws under the lip of the dash. Then 3 or 4 screws holding the 4x6 speakers down.

At first I used Polk Audio EX series 4x6's, componet tweeters and i loved it. Then i bought custom kick panels and gave my old stuff away.

Your best bet .. don't ask us. Listen for yourself at the local stores and see what you like for what you like to pay for. Talk to rep there and he can help. Then you can buy them there or order them online or whatever. We can "TELL" you what speakers are good because its all preference.

Also, if you buy 4x6 plate speakers .. some heating and molding of the heater vents will be necessary to fit them into the stock locations on the dash. I got my oval ones to fit in witht he only mod to break off the terminals on the speaker. Easy stuff.

Thanks, I still gots the stock unit. I guess it will do for now.

About that modifying the air ducts thing, is that gonna be the case with any 4x6 I try to put in there? Or only certain ones?

Ill stop by the local *sigh* import audio place and check out speakers.

Thanks for the info.

I didnt have to modify the vents at all and I have Polk Audio 4X6's. I have no unnecessary noises coming from that area. The drivers side was a little tight but no big problems. I agree with Tim you will have to listen to what you want. I have those 4X6's Infinity 6X9's run by a 400X4 Fosgate and next I am putting in Polk subs to be run by a 500X2 Fosgate but that may not be what the next person likes. Also I will soon be running 6 1/2" with 1" components in a kick panel. That will give me a whole array of sound out of my car.
