Whoops!!
okie dokie....the wires that go to my head unit are hacked to $hit by the loving past owner....can i just get a new wiring harness for the head unit, if you look good enough i think theres a blue clip harness, and i think thats the head unit one, but i could be mistaken... or do i just have to splice, splice, and splice for my head unit to work?
whats up..
geez i thought that only happened to me..
my first thirdgen that i had,(89 iroc) had the same thing. the kid who had it thought he was an electrical genuis and hacked the thing to shiiit. long story short i had to scrap the car cuz the hole harness was fried and nearly set the car on fire, but the local chevy dealer said i would have to buy a hole new harness to replace just the radio harness. in my current bird(85 ta) it was the same way!!
i just followed the lines and spliced the new head unit harness in to the wiring. So if you know which is which you could just splice into it, or go to your dealership
hope this helps

yea im not an electrical genuis but i know if i have a wiring diagram then i can do it..seems simple, connect the wires to where theyre supposed to go lol..:lala:
I'm going to tell you what wire did what in my car but if I were you I'd go down and buy a test light to make sure. Orange was 12 volts constant, yellow was ignition, I made my own ground wire so I don't know the color of that. Since I have amps I didn't use the stock speaker wires but I think they were pretty obvious. Hopefully I helped you figure out two of them.
A neat trick is that if you know you have found speaker wires but don't know which speaker they go to take a AA battery, touch a speaker wire to each end and it will give a small popping sould in the speaker they are routed to.

most radio's (i am assuming) come with a simple wiring diagram in the owners manuel. i order all my recievers through crutchfied, so they sent all the diagrams free. you could probably check with them. My colors were as follows, black=ground, orange=constant power, whiteand purple and gray were speakers. thats all i remember

I remember the GM colors by heart, he already gave you the power and ground colors, ill give you the speaker colors. Yellow + Brown=rear right, Light blue + Dark blue=right rear Light green + dark green= front right, Tan+beige= front left. I may be wrong on the sides, but those are the speaker sets. Any wires left over will be your dimmer. Make sure to test the ground wires carfeully because the dimmer wire will also act like a ground untill the lights are turned on. Make sure you use a test light!!!!

I figured they'd help out others too. For our cars (82 to 88 with the old harness) and the newer cars (89 to present - i believe) use the same colors for the same features in retrospect to the ignition power, continuous power, ground, lights on input, dimming control and the 4 speakers. Now if we're talking Bose or Monsoon ... I'm not sure if they're the same or not.
