crossover stuff

ok so my headunit has built-in crossovers, and of course so does the amp.. if it makes any difference at all, what will be the better way to go? set the crossover on the receiver, set it on the amp, set it on both.. or it doesnt make any difference at all? oh yea, and why? thanks

It all depends on how good each xover is. I would use the xover with the highest db/octave ratio. For example, if the deck has an xover that's 12db/oct and the amp has 18db/oct, use the amp's xover. If they are the same, then use the deck's since you can make ajustments from the drivers seat. However, most decks have preset points were you can set the xover, whereas amps usually have a screw that offers infinte adjustments.

I like using the amp crossovers rather then the head unit. Since I'm constantly working on my car, wheneveri need to disconnect the battery, I don't have to reset everything besides the clock ans stations.

There very well could be!! What amp and what head? Not all x-overs are created equal....but most all of them are very good. As far as slope, generally the steeper the better, but let your ears be the judge.

I like using x-overs with the head....if it has good ones (like my P1R). That way, from the front seat, you can adjust and change things to sound the best. Its A LOT harder to do that when using the amps x-over. You listen to music, get up, go to the back of the car adjust and then go sit back down. Very hard to tell differences that way, it needs to be back-to-back. Now if you had a second person changing x-overs from the amps while you are sitting and listening, then it would work just as well as with a head.

jbl 1200.1 for the sub amp, alpine mrv-t420 (probably) for the components, and kenwood kac-x917 for the head.. its a pretty high quality/competition head unit, the jbl is just brute power.. im guessing that the head unit would be the cleanest way to do it for the sub.. not too sure about the alpine tho, from what i hear they have exceptional sq stuff.. any suggestions?
