Audio gurus....Will different 4x6s help out with this problem???
I currently have a Pioneer deck (50 watts x 4) I think it's the 7300 (the one with the bird and the indy car), Pioneer 4x6s up front (100 watts I think), Pioneer 6x9s in back (220 watts I think), and a Kenwood amp that is powering a single 12" sub. I have high pass filters on all the speakers, and the bass from the sub is great. My problem is that when I crank it up, it sounds like it is being distorted. Now I'm guessing it's either crappy front speakers, or vibrations in the dash. I've also noticed that it sounds kind of crappy when there is a real high pitched note or when the singer/group makes an "s" sound in the song. Any suggestions???? If you think I need new 4x6s, what brand should I get?? Thanks in advance.
i think it is vibration from the dash cause i got pioneers 4x6 and they sound really clean but i can feel the dash shaking alot, maybe some insulations or that dynomat stuff might for work but i've never used it so i dont know how well it works
is the deck pushing 50 watts max (most likely, which would mean ~22 rms)? if so, you could very well simply be exceeding the capabilities of the head unit.. regardless of whether your dash is messing up your sound, i would think about investing in like a 50x4 amplifier or something to power your speakers.... thats just my .02 tho
You might need crossovers for your 4x6's .. maybe its pushing too much bass and distorting the tweeter. Try tweaking the EQ on your deck and see if you can push less bass to the front. Maybe fade it to the rear a little?
For the best sound, I say you just forget about coaxials and step up to a set of component speakers. Coaxial speakers that come in plates like 4x6, 5x7 or 6x9 can't compete with the sound from a component set. Ditch the 4x6 in the dash alltogether and get a set of kickpanels and 5 and 1/4 components. You will get much better harmonics.

Thanks for the replies. I would get the kicks, but they are kind of costly. Does anyone know where I could find cheaper ones than the DJSexay style (yes I know he's not the one making them anymore), or does anyone have any for sale? Thanks again.

REZN8R's are probably the cheapest you'll find for the quality that they are....and lemme tell you, they are frickin nice. Any other fiberglass kicks you find or have a shop make will easily run over a couple hundred dollars. So i say spend the $140 and get them!
