is my old amp hurting my new speaker performance?
??? I have an alpine 7874 50wX4 head unit, Alpine SPS-4629P 4"x6" Plate 2-way front speakers, and Alpine SPS-6939S 6"x9" 3-way rear speakers. The amp was in the car when I bought it. It is an ADS P80 Power Plate. The amp was installed sometime in the late 80's.
I am 95% sure the speakers and head unit are high quality but i am somewhat disappointed with the sound, could it be that the amp is so old that it taking the good sound from the head unit and amplifying with poor quality to the speakers?
Thanks for the help,
John

I don't really want to spend a lot more money on my stereo, will i get a good amout of sound if i just take the amp out? Also, I am using the wiring that was in the car since new, will i notice any difference if i upgrade to the wiring that came with the new speakers. In case I change my mind about getting an amp, which ones do you reccomend that are inexpensive?
Also, I hear a buzzing from the back right when the right rear bass 6X9 hits. It sounds like its comming from around the passenger seatbelt housing in the roof. Does anybody have an expirence with this buzzing and know how to fix it? I am pretty sure it is not the speaker buzzing, it sounds like something is loose.
Thanks for the help,
John
