Sparks WOW Sparks!!!!!!!!!

I kept having trouble on my rear/rear right 6x9, sounded like it had blown but they are 500watts each and bridged on a 600watt amp so I know I could not have blown them.

I just got done today fixing my tilt. no more 2-3 in of slop in all directions.

So I just decided to switch the speaker wires around and make sure its the speaker and no the amp. So its dark outside, im laying inside the car long ways, hatch closed, neighborhood friendly, start to jam away, get up to 15 no problems, 18 its ok no blown sound hit 20 and I start to see flashes out the cornor of my eye.

My cool chrome inverted 6x9 are arching at 20+. big sparks jumping form the bare wire that goes form the connector intothe cone, jumping over too the nice chrome frames.

what they he!!???

and it was the left speaker with the right wires doing this. but the right speaker with the left wires sounded fine again.

is thee a such thing as a amp blowin in a way that it pushes too much power??? any idea whats going on here???

Thats messed up. Can you get a pic or vid of the sparks? HA! just Bsing you probably dont want to see those sparks again. Well all I can say is my stock stereo gave alot more bass and volume to the right side and a less power to the left. Soulution, trash the stock pos. It didnt spark or anything but I wasnt running 600 watts bridged to the speakers. just a thought........

wha?!!??!??!! Damn that's one original post you got there. I definitely want a video of it.

Sparks arcing from the terminal to the basket... **** I don't even know where to start. First thing I'd suggest is checking the wiring from the amp to that speaker. I really highly doubt that an amp would push enough power through speaker wires to cause arcing on your speaker, unless something isn't wired correctly or some other power source wire is interfering.

Second, it's possible that you may have arcing on the amp as well, but just didn't notice it. If the terminals on an amp are close enough and it's pulling lots of power, you could possibly get an arc from the +12v terminal to one of the speaker terminals. THAT would push enough juice to cause arcing on your speaker. If you're going to find out, please have a video cam handy.

Third, if your wiring looks fine and the amp seems ok, check the wiring on the speaker. It's possible that the soldering from the terminals to the cone went bad or something, but still, I highly doubt anything is wrong with your speakers (well maybe NOW they're blown, having sparks flying across them).

I suspect the amp, personally. It seems like a 12v source is getting into your speaker wire and then grounding itself from the speaker terminal to the basket, which is screwed onto the frame of the car. I'm surprised no fuses were blown, so you may want to keep an eye on battery drain or your speaker wires getting fried. Also, double check that the ground from the amp is secure and doesn't have too high resistance. I hope this helps, and good luck.

You know Ive had that amp for years n years, about every other year I think its blown but when I re-wire it works again.

It had to be the amp, I pulled it out and hooked up a 1200watt amp bridged to the 6x9s and I have no more problems or that blown speaker sound.

my head unit is a pioneer DEH-P4000 the rest is a blur but all "good" parts. Beofre I buy anything my stero nut friend run the speaker numbers through them speaker and box programs.

But I have problems with him some times as he wants me to spend $20,000 on a system that crystal clear when all im dong is playing mp3s.

For mp3s it rocks.

I dont have the 12s in anymore. [the 12s were on that 1200w amp] once I realized that one of them was blown and all that awsome base was just from my 6x9s. I like having the extra room and I can see out my window much better with the big box.

I got 2 6x9s in the dash, 2 6x9s in the stock side positions on the head unit and the two inverted ones on 1200w amp now. Loud enough and clean enough for jaming mp3s.

I would of taken some pics but all I got is a ****y web cam but trust me at 20+ volume it was like testing spark on a engine. Big fat sparks jumping 1/2 in or more. Just glad it did not melt the wire or break it from that.

Are my eyes decieving me, or are those 6x9s from Soundstorm Labs?

If you've rewired the amp before, I suggest taking it apart and checking the terminal wiring for the speaker that was arcing. I'm 90% certain that there will be a +12v wire crossing it or arcing to it inside the amp.

Agreed about the mp3s. Personally I get POed when someone tries mouth the mp3s. I think your only chance of telling the dif between a cd song and a well burnt mp3 in even a 3 or so grand sql machine is a guess. The sh!ty mp3s people knock on are ones that are burnt by people that dont know what to do...

I had to ask, you cant tell around here.

I dont know why guys use women in there pic, its confusing on who your talking too. I might give a person with a pic like that more slack, cause it might be just a girl.

But there are a few real chicks around here with some body.

I have the same speakers. Two 6x9s, two 4x6s crammed in the dash (deep mounting depth), and a 4 channel amp they made a couple years ago. They're somewhat cheap in manufacturing, but I personally think they are the BEST for the price. They'll forever need a high-pass filter to sound great, and they definitely push some air when at high volume.

I can't say I've ever seen one of them arcing though. Haha.
