How to port a sealed box.

What are the steps and tools needed to port a sealed box? I have the right box, I just need to get it ported. How would I go about this, and how big does the port need to be?

Use a hole saw and stick the port in the hole.

Physically, it's that easy. Unfortunately, there's more to it than that. Just stuffing a port in your box isn't going to help. You need to find out what diameter and length port is reccomended for your sub, and additionally, what size enclosure your sub needs in a ported configuration... it's a different size than the same sub would need for a sealed application. This is information that your sub manufacturer should help you with.

smack it real hard with a hammar, boom. its now ported.

get a selection of pvc pipe 3in dia. 3in long 4in 6in 8in and try different ones till it sounds right. other wise you need a good speaker box program and put in box and speaker specs, then even your ears might not like it.

A port is an area where air can be released from the box.

You might benefit from reading the articles in the tech section to get acquainted with the basics. There are many different kinds of subwoofer boxes: sealed, ported, bandpass and others. Learning the basics might help you better understand what you're reading in these threads.

I belive I depends on the sub that you buy. Some say they work best in sealed, ported or free air.
