I got 2 12" subs (not boxed)
I got 2 10" subs (not boxed)
I got 2 6x8's
Now I need to figure out something where can I mount all of these in my 1985 Camaro, I was talking to my buddy and he said I need to mount the 12's in the trunk in an open box, and the two 10"s behind the back seats in a closed box, but if you have seen a 1985 Camaro you would know that there is no room behind the seats for a closed box, so how can I mount all of my speakers, I have no idea where to mount all of these speakers and how..
Also my friend says I might need 2 amps, 1 4 the 6x8's and one 4 the subs... But what kind of amps would i need and how much ampage?
He also says I need a crossover or something, I have never mounted or set up a car stereo so what do you all recommend for all of these things, my price range is up 2 1500 dollars..
Can someone please give me some instructions on how to make a box for my car....
Alos I need a deck but I dunno what would be a good one to get, I want a cd deck obviously but what would you all recommened for cheap, also I am in Canadian currency here so please keep that in mind..
Thanks

I would recommend a Clarion(
) or a Pioneer deck.
As for the speakers, mount the two 6x9s (not 6x8s, unless you bought some russian brand or something) in the factory rear speaker locations. Make or buy a box for the two 12s in the rear hatch well. Make a simple box for the two 10s above the gas tank. If I were you I would sell either the two 10s or two 12s and buy another pair of the same subs. When you mix sub sizes so close together it will sound like crap. As for amps, I wound buy atleast two 2/1 channel amps for the subs and if you want, buy a 4 (for the front 4x6s and rear 6x9s) or another 2 channel amp just for the rear 6x9s. Also, do NOT run your subs just sitting on a board (not boxed) in the hatch unless they are a free air design.

the one that is named ken is the kenwoods I have and the one that is labelled other is the stock speaker
1. Kenwoods
2. Stock

dont really know wtf you are talking about (dont be offended I curse at everthing
) But If the holes dont fit, drill new ones just not to close to the old ones. If the woods are too big, grind the outside of the speaker whole and make it fit.(a dremell is nice for this stuff) If the speaker hole is too big you have several options, Cut a metal template that fits over the whole thing, have a muffler shop weld it on, or make a fiberglass speaker box and jam it in there.
>hope I helped you out somehow now HACK AT IT!

no its not the mounting that is wrong here I will draw a picture of it ..
see what I mean now, I have to turn my kenwood connectors into the ones like the stock speaker

Ok heres what you do about the 6x9 problem. Since I have the same 6x8's. Stock Camaro speakers are 6x9's, so don't know if you will have a problem with with holes lining up or not, but ....
What I did was cut the 2 wires going into the little blue adapter from the old speakers, but a "Female" type connector on it. (The ones that are called like "quick connect" connectos or something.) and clicp the "Female" ends onto the new pioneer speakers.
Badda Bing Badda Boom, your done with the 6x9's. Not that hard and if you still don't understand then let me know and I will take a picture of something.
Now for the subwoofers. For the (2) 12's that you plan to run in an open box .... Don't. Mainly because there are only a few subs that actually are desined to run open. If you run subs that dempand a closed box and you run them open, they will sound like complete a**. If you want I have a duel 10" subwoofer box, the same color as red_firebird 400, I can sell to you just name a price. It's designed to fit into the well in the trunk on 2rd gen camaros.
Then build a special box that angles the other 2 subs facing the back of the car, so it bounces off the back of the hatch. exaclty like red_firebird 400. Now you can get custom and mount the amps on the back of the seat, like some people have pictures of. It looks awesome and saves you alot of room.
Now onto the Amps. All you really need for those 6x8's is a nice 2 channel 200 watt amp. That will give them more than enough power to sound great. You can pick one up for really cheap. And you can mount it anywhere cause ther are normally small. Also I would run 1 amp for every 2 subs. Add both the subs R.M.S. power together and get an amp that is about 200 watts below that. Personally I never run my subs at full watt because it's bad for them. And you can mount those 2 amps on the back of the seat like I said before.
$1,500.00 is more than enough to get totally custom with your install. If you install it all yourself you can save a TON of money and you know it is correct. So if you have anymore comments/questions. Feel free to ask me. Now I don't know everything about hooking up car audio, but I can make my stuff pound like crazy with cut rate stuff. Also if you live close to Canton, Michigan I might be able to help you out with everything.

You'll have to either splice some extra wire just behind the stock connector or just cut the connectors off. Strip about a 1/4 inch off the end of the two wires and crimp on some connectors that fit your Kenwoods. You can get these connectors pretty much anywhere: Home Depot, The Wiz, hardware store, car audio store, etc.; I just can't remember what they're called.

Its tomorrow let see some pix!
Did you cut up your wires yet? Come to think of it I just folded the speaker wire and stuck it in the hole of the connected that belongs on the bird. Then of course I put tape around it so it doesnt come loose or touch metal. Well did you fix it yet?

actually no, I haven't done anything to it yet, the thing is that the old speaker had a plug that pluged into my cars wires, I was thinking of cutting the old speaker connector off and then get some wire (i dunno what gauge) and solder it to 2 wires, then wrap the two wires ends around my kenwood imputs like you said then I will still have the connector here I will post a pic 4 u all explaining what I mean...
BTW where are those pics?

Solder?, if you want to do it the hardway. Unless you are going to enter some car show that looks at how you connected the wires. Other that that just rig it up to work. Well thats a pic of the back of the speaker right? And the only two wires that you are soppossed to connect something to right. Tell you what Do what I did. Get about 8-9 inches of speaker wire. Cut it in half. Connect one of the wires to the 6X9. Now @ the other end of the wire fold it or something then Jam it into the connect that came with your car. Tape up the ends of the wires real nice and there you go. I wouldnt cut the connector of your car because that may leave the wire to short to work with. If you still havnt tried something by the time I get home. I'll take my speaker out just to take a pic of what I did.
Supreme Member
As long as its not thin as he!l It will work. I just used some reg old home speaker wire. Go Radio shack and tell them you want the wire that supports some 6X9s. I'm sure someone can tell you the exact # but I usally just eye it out. not the largest wire not t he smallest wire but the one right in between.

Well pictures are up. I did it in about 5 mintues total. I will fix it later tonight when I get some time. goto www.geocities.com/ratf_maverick there is it listed under "How to install 6x9's"
Also there is a pic of my sub box under "Trunk" I know everything is a mess but it's all ran perfect now.

I am surprised no one told you to go to BestBuy or CC or an audio shop and just buy the freakin adaptors, they are like $10 for a pair and then you wont have to deal with all this cutting crap. It also makes it a lot easier to go back to stock too. Obviously no MECP certified installers here....cutting wires is a no no in most books. One end of the harness plugs into your factory wiring, the other matches up with the kenwood speaker wiring...easy.
Installing the 6x9s is easy. Use a screwdriver and remove the clothes hook from the sale pannel, then pull the sail pannel off. Next Unscrew the 4 screws and pull the speaker out. Just install your new speakers with the harness, reassemble and you are done.

people make wiring adapters for all vehicle factory harnesses...circuit city, car audio shops... they all have things that enable you to do what you need to do without cutting harnesses...

Radio Shack won't have them, it would have to be a car audio shop, or someone who has a moble install.

Harness? SUch a waste fo 6 bucks. Take that 6 bucks to wendys and wallmart. Get some burgers and tape.
