SPL Subs?
Not sure how much they cost, but a guy here in town hit a 137.something with a single 10W3 powered by a JL 500/1 in a Stealthbox in a 4th gen camaro today. Damn impressive for a prebuilt box and midline sub.

Tim is right. $100 subs are cheap subs. That's not to say that you can't get a nice sounding sub at that price, but you won't be able to find the type of application-specific sub that you need to excel in one particular field (i.e. SPL or sound quality). $100 subs are usually a brand's "low end" one-size-fits-all type of sub. Since most of these subs have modest power handling capabilities, I'd concentrate on finding one with a high sensitivity rating (The JL W0s come to mind) and not one with a giant 1" rolled surround and enormous magnet structure. Those subs tend to be very inefficient, requiring massive amounts of power to achieve high SPLs.
