Will 6X9's sound that bad in a box?
I'm looking into other options with my stereo... i was wondering, would 6X9's in a box sound that bad? I was thinking about putting some in the sailpanels like stock, and then get a pair of boxes and setting another set just above where the back seats are... I think it'd be cheaper then getting the kickpanels, they're pretty expensive.... what do you guys think? I went to ultimate electronics to listen to the infinity kappa perfect 6X9's(I've still never heard them) and their soundroom thing was all messed up... i was disappointed....
I did the same thing, the 6x9's in the box drasticly improves the sound of the stereo but does leave something to be desired
the bass sounds really flat and not as solid as one whould hope
overall I do think it was worth it though

Boxes are actually a good thing on 6x9s, as long as you have seperate subs to power the low end. The box helps the 6x9 perform more efficiently, but realistically, they aren't meant to reproduce those really low bass frequencies, which is why the bass sounds flat after putting them in a box. If you get a 10" sub and put it somewhere out of the way (in the tire well or the driver-side lock box), you'll have a very stock-looking, well-rounded system. I say go for it.

Thanks, I wasn't looking for it to make them sound way better or anything, I was wondering if it'd make them sound worse.....
I'm thinking 4 6X9's, the ones in the sails and the ones in boxes....

Well, I bought boxes for my 6x9's and put them in my bedroom and they sounded 10x better than when they were in the sailpanels, so I think it's worth it. I dunno about having them in the sails AND additional ones in boxes though.... why do that?
I'd also be careful about having so much sound from the back of the car. It will screw up your sound imaging and your sound stage will be behind you, which isn't cool. If you're gonna do it make sure you put more volume to the fronts and use the rear fill to compliment it, not overpower it.
