I think I fried my amp....
I have an Alpine V12 amp that I have had for a while and tonight i was messn with it and two wires got cross, i had bridged channels 3 and 4 and then the (+) and (-) got crossed while the stereo was on. Here is what came of it, the sound cut, i killed the stereo and when back found this and disconneced them. ok i now only have channels 1 and 2 powering kappa 4x6s, the stereo turns on and i only get clips of the music, it plays for less then a second then cut out and then a few seconds later it plays again for less then a second and then cuts...over and over...i have disconneced all the speakers and put a volt meter on the outputs and i can watch the spikes..when the music plays. so i know it is not after the amp, it is either the amp or something wired in before the amp.....if this thing is fried it is cheaper for me to go out and by the new Alpine V12 MRV-F-450 5 channel amp....50x4 rms and 200x1 rms. kappas are rated at 60 rms...the 4x6s and 6.5 and my reference 12" sub it rated at 300 rms....should sound allright....feed back would be cool to see if i can get my old amp working again.

sounds to me like ya fried it. im not exactly sure how but thats what it seems like. make sure you check all fuses and connections. well the necessary ones anyways. dont worry about the ones dealing with the windshield wipers or nothin
. im j/k. just trying to lighten up your day. anyways back to your question...
if all the fuses and such look alright then its probably internal. if you plan on just getting a new amp instead of replacing it, you can open up your amp. look for any burned areas (pretty obvious black or dark brown areas). if its just a broken piece or something you can maybe fix it with some solder or replace it. chances are if its ****ed you really cant do any thing about it yourself and you'll only figure out that its screwed up.
good luck and dont hurt yourself. also, this is intended for informational purposes only. if you die from getting electricuted, dont blame me.
sorry, thought ide throw in a little warning.

yeah, i am gonna replace it b/c i was planning on buying a 200 dollor alpine amp for the sub ne way so i figure that 300 for a new amp, one with 5 channels will be nice....for 100 more i will just wait another week.

oooooooooo crap
I had the same problem, are you just pushin through the RCA's?
If so, better check your deck outputs, but if you aren't, well, you probably know already. Hopefully you didn't toast the whole system.

If you can get clips, you haven't fried your amp. I agree with the comment about checking your Preouts, if they appear alright then its something deeper inside the deck. If it's still under warranty send it in, thats what I had to do my my sony.
i took some RCAs and hooked them up to my discman and then to the RCA inputs on the amp, it still "skips" so the amp is fried, not the headunit....lil bastards....gettn me all worried about my new alpine headunit.

did you use different RCAs or the ones you were already using? if you used the same ones to check it then you might have a bad cable. i doubt this is the case but you gotta cover all the bases.
This might sound kinda funny, but try sniffing around in the amp with the cover off and if you smell something burnt, its probablly your transistors. Most likely they have fried. I hope this isn't the case though be-cuz it can get kind of expensive.

even though the amp is still messed up, you might want to put an ohmeter on your RCA outputs just to double check that your deck is not screwed. I did not intend to scare you or nothing, but it happens.
