Orion HCCA 12" :(

I bought my Orion off ebay and people told me how sick they could be. Well, I was told somebody ran 1200w to one and it bumped real nice. They told me they had an Orion amp to it. I put my Rockford Power 800.2 to it... and poof. Popped both coils. I believe I had it running dual 4 ohm at the time. I dunno what it could be. I was thinking maybe the crossover.

Anyway... I would like to get it repaired... is this possible for a decent price? Could I buy the coils from them, then repair it myself... or is that too hard?

I need help...

Is it still under the manufacturers warranty? If so they will do it for free. If not, it will be much cheaper to buy another sub off ebay.

Considering how much massive abuse those subs can take, I'd say that either you got that one in a billion sub that had a problem with both coils, or you goofed up something. I could see 1 coil blowing, but if you scorched both of them, it's not too likely that it was a defect in the sub. Before you lose more money, I'd spend some time diagnosing your install.

There are a thousands of possibilities that could have done that. Could you have hooked the power from your amp to the negative on a coil, that would do it. But, I doubt that it's the subs defect and Jim said, most likely you made a mistake installing the sub.
