fake speakers/ air drivers/ not sure on the name.

[Just board thinking]

anyone ever seen them house speakers they sell some times, they are real loud nd have super bass. Soon as you take the speaker grills off you find out it only has 1 real speaker, the other one is a fake driver, moved/driven by the other speaker in a sealed box. like 2 speakers from one.

anyone ever toyed with the idea of one of these???

I got a set of 12s and one of them is blown. was thinking of making a single sealed square box for the 1 12 but still install the other blown speaker as an air driver. I was/am gonna remove the magnet so it all free moving, doubble to response from 1 speaker.

would that put too much straine on the 1 speaker.

should the box still be doubble size?

dumb idea?

Its called a passive radiator. I think its supposed to be an alternative to porting a box. I know you can tune them useing weights but from what i hear it can be difficult.

the passive radiators are supposed to have weights and i believe you will need a computer program to figure out the amount to add. it might sound bad if it is not done exactly right. good luck

I was just gonna try it, got a box looking like this [IOO]
it has a vent/slot then the two 12in holes. Guy told me that is wrong , speaker closer to the slot must work harder. Guess which speaker blew??? one next to the slot.

guy spent 150 buck to have tass build it, and he gave it to me for free. so no big loss except 1 12iner. Course I only paid 50 buck for the pair of speakers about 7 years ago used so I got my moneys worth.

Gonna cut that box in half. [IO] [O]

I will have 1 sealed box and 1 sloted box. was gonna play with each one and see which sound better.. Gotta make a bottom for both so i was gonna just give it a shot and see what happned with two speaker in each smaller box but only 1 hooked up, 1 as free air.

Im going to a singe 15 soon but thought i would play around and see what kind of bass I can get till then.
