Pics of double-DIN installs
I'm going to sell my DVD player and buy a 1 DIN unit instead. To go along with it, I'm probably going to buy a new 1 DIN head unit. I'm considering my installation options, and one of them is to rework the center console to mount them both in the factory location in a double-DIN arrangement. I remember seeing a pic or two of somebody that installed a double DIN deck into their car. Anybody have that pic or know who it was?
My other thought is to put the DVD player where the stock center air vents currently reside. This will make it easier for me to keep a stealth appearance than it will be if I go with the double DIN plan.

I remember the car that youre thinking of, but dont remember whos. I *think* it was a friend of MeanYellowZ's...
Anywyas, this guy put two single DIN units in, and it doesnt look too butchered, if you get past the ancient equipment and bad pictures...

Thanks. Since that's exactly what I'm doing, that is pretty helpful. I'm not terribly impressed with the fit and finish of the final product, but it certainly gives me something very concrete to build from.
Jim,
I have been thinking about the idea of taking out the center vents and installing a 1 DIN CD player in there.....It will fit
The only thing i would be concerned about is the A/C needed to be re-routed somewhere........
I can't do a single thing when it comes to building custom parts.......Keep us posted on your progress if you plan to do this.....
What are your plans for a different 2-DIN adapter.....

As for the a/c vents, I don't really see why having a little cold air blowing on the back of the DVD player would cause any problems anyway. I have a spare dash & dash pad in my living room right now, and when I started looking at what it would take to put my current DVD player in there, I realized that I needed a new plan. This new single DIN dvd player will require substantially less custom fabrication and should keep a more stock appearance.

The problem is that I'm horrible at making things, in which case i asked if you are planning on making a 2 DIN adapter with the A/C controls there, I would be interested in purchasing one from you for a reasonable price.......or are you planning on installing it in the A/C vents?
Also to see some sort of template if i were to try and make my own....
Cold Air blowing on the unit will cause trouble, condensation for one because what happens to the dash around the vents, when it's humid outside and the cold air is on full blast.......water builds up....

I haven't really started the project yet. Right now I'm just at that stage where I stare at the dash, hoping that eventually an idea will come.
As for kits... no. I don't really have any plans for offering a kit. Chances are I'm not even going to do the double-din thing in my car. I'm leaning more toward putting the DVD player where the center vents are.
