help, sold cd player and its locked

I sold a stock gm cd player to a guy in california and he wants a refund because it is locked. It is from a 2000 cavalier. I bought it and never used it, and i sold it to this guy and he said he hooked it up and it says LOC. He called his chevy dealer and they said it would take $65 for them to reprogram it. It that true?? I had a friend who had the same problem and dealership cleared it for nothing. Does this model use a numeric code, or does it have to be done at the dealership??? Please help me cause i dont want to deal with giving him his money back. PS- i sold it to him for 80 and the 65 would only make it 145 total for a cd player. I dont think that is too bad myself. I guaranteed him that it would work, and he says it doesnt, I hate to be an a** about it, but doesnt it work??? What is the definition of "work"?? please help me out, i need to get back to this guy.

My definition of work is not having to pay extra to get it to work, plain and simple. If it was stated in the ad that it needed to be unlocked that would be a different matter, but since you didnt know at the time you couldn't post that. Still is your responsibility to test something b4 you sell it, otherwise your are asking for trouble. I would offer the guy the money to get it unlocked and just eat the loss, or give him a full refund plus price to ship it back to you and unlock it yourself and resale. I understand how it sucks, but if I was the buyer I would be upset too.

GM should not charge him for this. Unless his car is something loder and that type or model of stereo did not come in the car he has. If that style of radio was a option in the car he has put it in,then GM should do it for nothing. They do it here all the time. I have gotten many done here at the local GM dealership.

I would agree with shok. But i never installed the player myslef, so i didnt know it was locked. If he sends it back, i can have it unlocked, and ship it to him again??? Also, does it sound like he is wanting me to send him the 65, but they have already done it for nothing.... am i the one getting screwed???? That would mean i make 15 on the cd player. That is not good. Doesnt 65 seems a little steep??? I will continue researching.

Maybe call dealerships in his area and ask? Then if you find one near him that will do it you can send him to that place.

OWNERS MANUAL

Usually in the owners manual it tells how to unlock those decks after a loss of power to the deck.

If you don't have the code, you don't have the code. I can tell you how to get the 2 codes needed to aquire the actuall code but that is it. FIrst turn the radio on, hold down the #2&3 presets till a 4 digit code pops up, then hold down the am/fm button and another code will appear. Gm needs both these code to unlock the radio, they have to call a special # to retrive these codes, it is NOT a mathmatical equation. THis is the best I can do for you, the rest is up to GM, but they should not charge you to do this. If they tell you they have to charge you then, either the radio is in a car that it doe not belong in, or they just don't want to do it for you. THen go and try another dealership.
