Did all Pontiac GTAs come with a built in amp?

nope. mine didn't. i think they actually discontinued it sometime in '88, so actually a lot of them don't, but i think a majority of 87's probably do.

Mine is an 87 ,are the amps anygood or should i replace it ?and what would fit in the same spot?

well, i guess the question is how do you think it sounds? the stock amp is about 2x25 W rms, so it's not too bad for basic speakers. it might be simpler to get a new set of 4x6's for the back, see how that sounds, and if you don't think it's good enough then, move the 4x6's to the front, then swap the stock back speakers for 6x9's. you can get the mounting plates with the 6x9 holes from any junkyard, since 90% of f-body cars have them. just take the trim panels off, and there's four bolts or so holding it to the sail panel.
