Installation

I was wondering how hard it will to install the new cd player... I know my basic electronics and wiring... but ive never done any car audio... just wondering

if you have a tor-x 15 driver, a phillips head, the head unit, harness adapter and crimps, it should be as hard as working 15-20 minutes.

installing head units is pretty much a breeze as long as you don't run into little problems liek i did. turns out the plug was gone so i had to splice my harness and my luck, the colors of the wires on the stock wiring i nthe car was different then what was on the wiring on the plug on my aiwa headunit. 20 minutes on the internet later and i had the diagram and got it hooked up 15 minutes after that.

 

Yeah, so long as you're careful and take your time (geez, now I sound like my dad telling me how to do anything ) you should have no prob with it.

 

Yup! Me, too, except that I already had the diagram from when I installed the stock cd player from a 96 Impala. The CD quit working, so my wife says, "don't worry, i'll buy you a new one for V-Day!" Went to Electronics Express and she sees an AIWA cd player that she thinks is "pretty", so she gets it for her Escort, and I get her old AIWA (about 2 years old, she had bought it for me for my birthday, same power rating and everything, just a different look on the face) and new speakers. It was a breeze installing the new one in her 'scort, because the mounting sleeve and harness were the same, from the old AIWA. The only problems that I had with the installation in the Camaro was setting the depth of the mounting kit. I wanted it recessed, but that stupid metal bracket that holds the stock stereo was in the way, and I could not get it to come out. So, it stcks out a little, but still looks good. The AIWA in the Camaro i the CDC-X207, and the new one in the 'scort is the CDC-X427. The only major difference between the two is the control layout, switchable illumination from red to blue, and it came with a remote, all on the -427. But, still easy. When I look back on when I did not want to do my own installations, I think, why was I so dumb?", because it is really not that hard.
