another amp question
another amp question
Here is another question for you guys. I have two 400 watts RMS subs, 800 peak. Would powering them with 420 watts RMS/sub, 840 peak be too much? I am looking at 280 RMS/sub vs. 420 RMS./sub How much of a difference would 140 RMS make? Is it worth and an extra $90?
Also how good are q-logic bandpass boxes vs. a high end bandpass that is 4 times as much money? Is the high end really worth the extra $175?
BTW, I am not going to be competing in any competition or anything.
Thanks for all the help,
-Kevin

In my opinion, it's not necessarily just the wattage rating that makes one sub better than another one. You get what you pay for typically. Even if the more expensive subs only have 20 watts RMS more power handling they may be better built as well. It really depends on which brand and model you're looking at comparing.
About the Q-logic bandpass, my experience with pre-fab bandpass boxes is that in a narrow frequency range they can be really loud. However because they aren't made with any particular sub in mind, they often don't sound very good.
