Board versus Box

I was looking on around and I saw a guy selling a board that fits over the back hatch of a firebird for 15 bucks. Is this a good idea over a sealed box, Do they work very well. I was looking for a box for my car and this was cheap and i was wondering how well it worked

the board works well if you have free air subs but if you have subs that need sealed boxes/ported boxes the board is not a good choice it will make it sound a lot different only because with a board the subs have that whole bottom of the trunk to use as air space and that might be too much you might lose some bass because they have to much air space. if you get a board and don't have subs that need a lot of air space limit it buy putting something down there to reduce the amount of space that the subs have.

My brother's camaro had a baffle board like that. He kept noticing the bass was getting quiter and quieter over time. So we pulled it out it was sagging at least half an inch in the middle. I just finished building him a box and the difference is night and day. The bass is clearer and way louder. If he's only selling it for $15, I'd have to believe it's probably not made of quality materials. Just my $.02.

the baffle boards are ok, but like everyone else has said, boxes are better. the free air subs work good with just a board, but sealed boxes are just way better.

so board=quick easy cheap job (but not at all bad)
box=car alarm setter offer :lala:

I already have a box that goes on the shelf that i have two tens and my amp has two channels free, i was just looking for a project and since it seemed cheap enough i just wanted something to monkey around with.

If you want something to mess around with, I would suggest going to a hardware store and getting materials to build a box. Even if you have free-air subs, they are much less efficient and will need a ton of power to sound clean. Build a sealed box for free air subs, or a ported box for non-free air subs.
