Pioneer Priemer
Does anyone know anything about the top pioneer premier headunit. Ill post a link of it when i can. Its supposed to be one of the best out there. Im contemplating gettin rid of my sony explod flip face display and gettin that instead. Its supposed to be able to do everything. Just seeing if anyone has had experience with it. Its the one that retails for $895 i think according to there website

According to my installer I have the same unit DEH-P8400MP with a few lower grade "inner parts" but the radio does the same thing as the Premier. See the picture attached. My unit was $600.00 and some change. Sounds great, tons of features, great display, two facees, detachable face, turns heads, looks good and much much more. If the Premier with the better inner parts whatever those may be is better I can't even imagine it. Everyone that gets near my car loves it.
i've been using premier products for the last 6 years and i'm pretty happy with them.
their is a major difference between units when you break down the pieces which is why they cost more, the extended 2 year warranty over pioneers one year is nice as well since that's about the time they break down.
it depends on the actual head units themselves but i'd recommend the brand to anyone asking. pioneer on the other hand is nice but it depends on what your going to use it for, that and the short warranty they give isn't worth much.
if i were to spend that much on a head unit again i think i would save up the extra 300 or so and get an in dash tv unit. unless your competing all the extra options on the high end single-din head units get old after the first few weeks.
the other thing is with the new color screens coming out the EL display will look sort of dated. so be sure to get exactly what you want.

from experience...i say go Pioneer, what model is up to you. i will only buy pioneer and i will only buy top of the line, they have better adjustments and outputs etc the hgher up you go. If you going for a full all out system, do the best, if its you basic hitting hard system only, then you dont Need top of the line. I have pioneers in dash DVD
I've owned several pioneer and pioneer premeir products. As for the head units, mine worked great, never gave me much issue. The only problem I had with it is that it wasn't very user friendly. Too many buttons for flash appeal. The menu's weren't organized well either. The remote only had basic funtions, and I had the upper model remote. I've been hearing that the premier line has been going downhill the past few years to. I don't have any experience with the late model h/u's though. I owned alpine, nakamichi, and eclipse before the premier(model P700 I believe) and I only have bought alpine since them. I even bought a used one off of ebay for my boat. It takes a pretty big chop for it to skip.
I will never buy their speakers again though. My 4way 6x9's were underpowered with a very clean signal going to them and 3 of the 4 tweeters quit within 6months. As a present I bought and installed an alpine head unit(7983 I believe) with two chromo PPI amps(4240, 2360) and an adire shiva 12" sub. I had heard they were decent, and bought some of the premier 6x9's and 4x6's instead of infinity kappa's. The 4x6's crossed over at 500hz and way way under powered gave out in about 6 months. I mean the amp was only rated at 30rms, and I had the gain way down for sound stage purposes. I bought some mbquarts to replace them and they have done great for 1 1/2 years. The 6x9's have no midbass to them. Having them as a the only speaker producing 100-500hz is a huge mistake. When these speakers come out this summer I won't even put them in my boat, they will get thrown away.

Are you referring to the P9? If so, it only 'does everything' if you get the DEQ-P9 as well (the processor). The head by itself is basically just a transport with little to no features, just great quality. Online the DEX/DEQ-P9 combo can be found for ~$1400, but no one has them in stock and finding them used isn't every easy either. Pioneer isn't doing any production with them for some reason.
I will have their old 'top model' (the P1R) for sale shortly (if the deal goes through on my getting a P9).
