4" components instead of 4x6"??

I was just curious if maybe the 4x6 pieces of crap in the dash could be replaced with a 4" woofer and possibly you could put the tweeter in a better position. That way you could have better imaging and not have to worry so much about taking up precious space in the kicks with kickpods. That's just an idea I had, but I have no clue really how much spce there is in the dash.

I think the general consensus on the boards was that there was very minimal space in the dash to put in some larger speakers. You might be able to fit it in the passenger side but on the drivers side some moving and cutting of things will be necessary to make room for the speakers. Kickpods would definitely be the most efficient way to go

you could fab up a mounting ring so that the 4" fits where the 4x6's went. the only problem with a 4" car speaker is that you will get little to none of the lower midrange frequencies. it is better then just a set of 4x6s (which usually only use a 3 1/2" driver i believe", but still lacking compaired to a 5 1/4". I have 4" speakers in my components, but they are meant only for filling in the frequencies between the tweeter and 6 1/2", so they dont have to be bassy

I have 4" in the 4x6 spot, JL audio makes an adaptor plate for the swap, I used there adaptor plates and MB Quart 4" with tweets. Sounds way better then the old Sony 4x6's

Infinity Kappa CMMD 4x6s are plate speakers, they are great souonding, i have them they have a 4" round and a seperate tweater put on a plate that fits in the 4x6 spot, the only thing you have to do is but a small 1/8" or so spacer under it when you mount it to give it the extra depth it needs.

i have a 4" component set. make a plate out of some 1/4" plywood and put the 4" there. wired the tweeter up on that plastic piece running beside the windshield. sounds alot better than it did with the 4x6s and i can actually here my highs over the pioneer 6x9s and kicker 12s. you cant flush mount the tweeters but it doesnt look bad with them kinda hanging out there.
