Alarm info
After having my Trans Am broken into 3 time and my eagle Vision broken into 2 times in two weeks, I am going to get an alarm for both cars. I was wondering if any one could give me a web site which sells the harnesses to install the alarms so I dont have to mess around with the factory wires.
Thanks

Is that even possible for our cars? Hardest part for me was finding a location for the alarm box. Tapping into the existing wires was no problem. I used the little blue splice taps; eventually I'll convert those to the strip/solder method.
Im not sure but I think there are harnesses out there for our cars. If you look in the crutchfield catalog in the chart section to see what fits what car you'll see a collum which says something about alarm harnesses for i believe crimestoper alarms or whatever company they sell. I dont know if it is just for crimestoper alarms or any alarm. I have to get a hold of my one buddy and see if there is such a thing for our cars, but I think there is unless someone tells me other wise.

There's no "plug in" harness that connects directly to the factory wiring. The harness is designed to connect to the alarm module and keep the wires organized. Like Tom said, it really isn't that hard. 2vmodular put together a list of wire colors and locations for third gens. I don't know the exact address for the site, but he has a link in his sig, so just do a search for his posts. There's more than one wire usually that you can use, it's just a matter of where you put the module. But it's only like 6 wires to connect (unless you're after additional features like starter kill, remote start, etc.)
I would certainly think about having a custom installer put your alarms in. Most quality alarm brands require them to be installed by an authorized dealer for there to be any warranty on the alarm. That and most shops guarantee their install as well. There are also computer controlled devices that can be damaged with a voltage spike of some kind. Just my .02.

all for what my friend paid for the alarm. Was it worth it, maybe. My friend has a 2001 Toyota 4runner, which is probably a bigger target for theft. So the manfacturer's warranty is more imporant to him. My brother bought his 89 camaro for $1,900. Then only reason he wanted an alarm was cause someone stole his head unit while the car was parked in front of our house. So spending $300 to protect a $150 cd player, maybe not the best way to go. But that's just my $.02 Thread
