Ok, someone who builds boxes... how much cubic air-space do I need for a 12" how 'bout for 10's... If the box has air ports ... DO I NEED to go by cubic feet, do you recomend sealing it (or only if you go by air-space)

I don't build boxes; but chances are the manufacturer of the subwoofer has recommended a size for the enclosure... what's the make/model of the subs?
If you look at the bottom of the magnet, there should be a model #, than if they are new enough, you can go to crutchfield.com and look them up. It will tell you how much cublic inches you need there.

The airspace inside the box is even more important with a ported enclosure than a sealed one. In general 10s require between .5-1.0 minimum for a sealed enclosure. Ported around .75-1.5. But you will need the manufacturer's specs first, because each sub is different. Some require a larger enclosure, and some are designed to work in really small ones. A lot of times you can go to the mfgr's website and they will list the info for several years of past models as well.
