How do you bench test an amp?
I was wondering how/where to get an amp bench tested. What kind of equipment is needed? Is it easy to do? Can I do it at home? Also, is there a difference from testing it on a bench to testing it in a car? How can I test in the car? what equipment do I need and how easy is it to do? Im just wondering cuz I just read a post about how amp ratings and sub ratings don mean sh*t so I want to test my amp and see what it is really pushing. Thanx for any info!
I think the bigger point was to buy quality stuff like JL, Kicker, Memphis and others and not pawn shop jewels. Power ratings are helpful to somebody who has done a little research before they buy to see what brands usually meet or exceed their capabilities as marked on paper. Im also not sure about very cheap amps but everything I have has birth sheets as they were tested in the factory. Biggest thing just know the company and research a little before you buy.

Nothing wrong with pawn shop stuff, lol
. I worked at one and actually got good stuff. But we always tested everything that came through the door. I used to get Kicker, Alpine, PPI, Sound Stream, MMATS, Autotek and other high end stuff dirt cheap.
All our test "bench" was, was a CD head unit, 14v power supply, 2 10's and 4 2-way coax speakers to test everything on an amp, radio or speakers. Basicly it was like Radio Shacks sound board they used to have. Using RCS, qucik connects and gator clips.

Saw the same thing at the pawn shop near me; went in there once with $100 to see what I could get- and the answer was NOTHING. Everything was pyramid or legacy or some other junk brand. He had two of the old silverish Sony amps, and wanted way too much for them- they looked like they were driven over, too. So I left and saved $100.

I kinda figured lol. Most get in the "flea market specials" lol. I was as amazed as anyone else the "quality" stuff we'd get in. But then I was usually the one that bought it, used it for a while, then something new came in and I'd sell the old stuff off from in the store. Thread
