Anyone cut their sail panels?
Has anyone here ever cut out the hole in their sail panels to expose their 6x9's? Im thinking of doing this. I just got some new Pioneer 6x9's with the kinda cool looking gray grills. I was thinking of just cutting around the hole that is already in the sail panel to let the sound through and then just wraping the fabric around to the back side so it has a nice clean finished look to it. This will also allow the installation and removal of the speakers without taking out the sail panels. The only reservation I have is that it may look stupid and also people can now see the speakers so it increases the risk of theft. What do u guys think and does anyone have pics of a car that this has already been done to?

It might look o.k., but I kinda doubt it. I too have contemplated making the rear speakers visible, but I think the only way to do it and have it look good would be to use fiberglass or some other filler to level out the area where the sail panel goes. That way it's look like it was just one big plastic panel as opposed to now if you left the sail panel off you would know a part was missing. Just my $.02 tho, good luck with whatever you end up doing.

i'm more of the "stealth" type, so i wouldnt do it. however, i did cut out most of the cardboard that was blocking the speaker on my old camaro and it really weakens the sailpanel cover. so be careful if you do it
If it was my car I would leave them hidden, why leave it exposed so that thieves can see them. After a while of seeing them exposed it gets boring just looking at exposed speakers. Just hang a picture of the mona lisa.

The other thing I was thinking is that it may help with some of the rattling. If the panels are cut out and the speaker isnt touching them it may keep it from shaking and buzzing on big bass hits.

like someone said b4, it would weaken the sail panel, i have aftermarket plastic sanel panels that are covered, i didnt cut holes in mine but if ur going to then u should go with the abs plastic ones so u dont have to worry about weakening them. personally i like the to color a few interior pieces and i bought this VHT fabric coloring stuff in a can, it looks good but i wouldnt recommend it, its weird, if u touch it it kinda comes off in a red dust, and i havent really had anyone in the back of my car yet and i could only wonder how they will look in a few months, im jut gunna have to go and get some red fabric of some sort and do it custom.
