Thieves stole my Alpine!
Thieves stole my Alpine!
Parked my car today for about an hour down a sidestreet and returned to find my lock all messed up. Before even looking in - I knew my brand new Alpine CD/MP3 (just installed 3 days ago)was gone. They even found and stole the remote for the radio. I was in a rush and didn't bother taking off the face of the radio and taking it with me. Instead I left it in the console box. What a stupid move. And I never even thought about getting an alarm for the car as I've had it for nearly a year without a problem. The only thing I did have on was an Autolock, and I believe this may have prevented the car itself from being stolen.
But now I'm p!ssed, and I'm looking around for the best alarm I can get so I can never feel violated like this again. I was thinking about a Viper and a motion detector for the inside of the car with an unbearable interior siren with a separate battery.
Any good suggestions???

A good system just about everyone inmy car club uses is a Compustar. I have a few other brands for sale, a couple similar to a Compustar. The link should still be in my sig.

feel your pain, had my last car broken into TWICE. question... did you have your deck installed by a car audio place or did you do it yourself?
HanSolo0260 - thanks for the suggestion, but I'm getting the top of the line Viper system with the transmitter and pager. I'm also getting the interior sirens and motion detectors. Everything goes in Saturday.
Xophertony - had Circuit City install it. Why?

IMHO, the Compustar tops a Viper , hands down. But thats just me, lol. I think it has more functions, the remote and pager is good up to a mile radius and is all in one unit and the shock & motion sensors seem to be better and more adjustable. A couple guys in my club have them operating the remote start, power windows, remote trunk, power locks, using everything basicly, lol.
But, a Viper isn't all that bad. Still a good alarm. Has most of the same stuff. Heck, I had a $30 Audivox on my Camaro and it worked just fine opening my shaved doors and making noise, cause thats all I wanted, lol.
Good that you're getting one on your ride though.
About the question where you had it installed, some places still after installing a stereo will see the car and break in it since they know what was put in there and if they have an address, they will do it right in front of your house. Usually happens from the smaller shops or shady people working at the bigger ones. Not saying thats what happened, but it does. Thats why I have learned to do all my own installs. Only things ever stolen from me was my first Alpine and CD's from my first system. Probably just some punk kids though.

i think what he's getting at is, the guys from circuit city probably stole it. there was another thread where guys from the car audio install place would know the car, where to find the car, and what stereo it had.
man i know how u feel. they stole my pioneer deh-p8000r last year. those ****ing *******s.

There's not much of a chance of that happening since Circuit City only has my home address and my radio was stole near my workplace, but I do understand what you mean.
One thing I am trying is looking around in some of the local papers to see if the crooks are stupid enough to try selling them in there. Sometimes they do. I want to see my CD pop out of there when I power it on. That would be royal!
As far as the alarm goes - I'm going for the Hornett 554T with "everything" including the pager instead of the Viper (big difference in price for the same thing). I am picking it up for $210 from a friend who has a connection at DEI (the company that makes both Viper and Hornet) and then getting the same friend to install it for me. Good deal! Saves me a couple of hundred. I'm still going for the extra high pitched interior sirens w/motion and a backup battery to punish any more wrongdoers who try to violate my rolling sanctuary. Looks like Monday is my install day due to the supplier being Jewish and closed on Saturdays.

One way it might turn up is if you called the cops, gave them a serial number and the punks try to pawn it. I used to work in a pawn shop and a lot of stolen stuff came in before I started working there and the detectives started cracking down. They would have serial numbers and descriptions of everything stolen if a report was made and come in to check every week on the latest pawns and buys. So many things came in with the number scratched out and all too. But anywho, if the local pawn shops do things the same way, your radio may turn up if they did pawn or sell it. Only problem, because of the business, in most cases you'll have to pay the pawn shop what they gave for the items to get it back. But sometimes it can be as little as 5-10 bucks. But if they sold it on the street, good luck in getting it back, usually never happens. So who knows. Good luck and hope they find your stuff.

The pawn shop is a good idea. I had two mobile TV monitors taken out of my car, checked the pawn shop and BINGO. And here is the kicker. I knew the assh*le that took it. Sometimes when you get ripped off, it may be someone that knows you, your schedule and your hangouts. Just something to keep in mind

NEVER provide the right address when you get audio stuff installed, i never have and i never win.....
On the other note, i do have a Viper Alarm, and the motion sensors are great, also got vibration sensors as well.....
I can highly suggest a Viper alarm and they aren't that expensive....
I feel your pain though, it really sucks, my car was broken into about 1 year ago, and just 3 days ago, someone tried to blow it up.....
Hope things work out.....

most people think that anything made by audioVox is junk. but take a look at their alarm system's/ they are the best i have seen along with the old school DEI (DEI is not owned by viper) you best bet it to look atound se andd what kind of add ons you can out on the system. but the fist think you have to worry about with ANY alarm system is how its installed. you can get a $1000 system and install it your self and then still have the arlam be by passed in about 30sec. so look at it both ways. a good a alarm and a great installer.

NEVER GIVE YOUR ADRESS!!! like fly-low said,. all they realy need is a phone number. if they want an adress give them a fake adress or the adress of an out of state friend or relative
if your real extreme and you have friends with a car trailer, take your plates off and tow it down there!!!! i kinow that last one is a bit far fetched, but if i have an alarm put in, i will probably just have car toys do it, and i know i can't trust those dirty sons a bitches!!! so i will tow it from my house (5 miles) with my dads car trailer.

Had my Sony stereo stolen out of my old camaro about 6 years ago. When i got my new Camaro and put in a JVC rcvr I took the wiring harness and switched the RED (+) Wire and the Black (-) wires around. Now in my car black wire in harness is (+) and Red wire is (-) So any @$$ hole who breaks into my car and steals it is going to burn it up if they try to install it.

Ha, A import tuner shop around here was known for that <cough> Jotech<cough>. they would sup up cars and then someone would go steal the parts out of them later, and put those parts in a new customers car, and the cycle continued.
well, 86tpi, looks like i know what to do when i break into your car and take your stereo!!!
DON'T POST YOUR SECRETS is another good point of advice. And don't put the alarm sticker on your windows; it just lets the would-be criminal know what he's up against. A blinking LED is all you really need to let them know (but of course, have a security system actually in there!).
One other point of advice: install the rear-mount bracket for your headunit, or have the install shop do it. It will be a bitch for a thief to get out.
And don't be like flynlow with a thousand appearance mods screaming "blow me up!"

Another good point to is take the face off of radio if removeable if not in car. I know it can be hectic sometimes but if they dont see a face plate there they usually will move on to a different car. Thanks CaysE, i guess i forget sometimes that anyone can look at these boards and im a very trusting person, a downfall i know. I do have an alarm on my car and no stickers, Just the blinking LED.
I have other secrets, but wont share them.

there is currently legislation in texas to quicken the hold time on death row in texas. if more then three CREDIBLE witnesses saw you do it, you die within a year instead of in fifteeen years. other states are trying to abolish the death penalty, texas is putting in an express lane!!!!
also... i like the NRA thing. and the concieled wepon thing
. in other news.. i already have the loud exhaust (not ratty, no R_I_see_E in my car!!!) note: see=C in case you could not figure that out
and no company makes street legal headers for the v6 YET.
i may just not put in a stereo, i do like the sound of my engine...
