Will an amp make the sound louder??

I currently have a four channel amp, but I'm only using two channels to power my 12" sub. If I hook up the other two channels to say the front speakers, will the music coming out of those speakers be louder at any given volume level (as compared to them being non-amped), or will it just be clearer?? Or both for that matter?? Thanks.

It depends on the power output of the amplifier. For example, a 100 watt amp is twice as loud as a 10 watt one so it a 10:1 ratio to increase sound level to 3 decibels. I hope that helps I'm kindly rusty in electronics cause I'm concentrating networking stuff to become a network administrator someday. :

ok....your face is probably a 50 watt max ...or 45....which means that its going to be 20 to 25 watt rms....which is the actual wattage that you are constantly hearing....so check that with your amp specs.....since its a 4 channel amp....only the expensive ones do much more....then double a face.....so chances are....if your speakers are good....you will have improved volume and clarity....depending on your hardware and amp.....and settings...of course
