I know alot of people dont like Walmart but, I bought a pioneer 10 inch IMPP 400w sub and a box and a VR sound labs amp for around $150 and it thumps good. Its not going to match up with all comp guys but it pounds good enough for me.
Hope this helps.

First of all realize that $400 is going to get you about the cheapest equiptment out there. Now, if you want to start building a system with $400, you could get a good start. If you have to have 2 subs why not buy one higher quality sub now and maybe a smaller amp to run your one sub for now and later get a second sub and a larger amp to run both subs and move your small amp to your speakers. This way you won't wind up with old stuff you can't sell or use. If your speakers are stock then a set of tweeters could help out in front, too.

If you only want to spend $400 on an entire system, than look into Planet Audio. For about $500 you can get two of their entry level subs, a decent amp to run them (made in USA, 5-year warrenty), an 8 guage power delivery kit, and a box. Assuming that you already have a head unit with RCA pre-outs.

Later,
Matt

You could get the enclosure off http://www.subenclosures.com/ I think he isnt makin em right now, but you can still get the kit, and I dunno about the rest of it...

Or do like I did, I use to fix amp's when I was in high school, so I always had chances to buy good cheap used stuff, and I had stuff I fixed and they never paid for, so I got to keep. I ended up with like 1000 in equipment, traded away, and had stolen most of it but now I run one rockford 12, pioneer or JL cant rember 6x9's (3 ways I know that). Aftermarket dash speakers, pre amp crosovers, and I don't rember what amps I have. I have a pioneer head unit. use to have a really good one but it got stolen, when someone tried to still my car

And no I don't still fix amp's its just not worth it .....

I only need subs and an amp

I have my head unit, disc changer, 4 6x9's, 2 4" fronts an amp to power those speakers. Its all ALPINE.

I only want an amp and two subs... I can prolly extend my costs to 600 if need be. Are sony Xplodes any good? Cause I can get 2 and a box for 150 as a replacement until I can get betters.

Are you dead set on having two subs? You could get:
1 Adire Shiva Mark III $175(canadian) Shipped
JBL 600.1 $189(us) +s/h

Used amp is your best bet. A PPI PC4400 $200/Ebay will give you reliable 200 watts RMS/channel.

New subs will be more reliable than used. I suggest JL Audio 10W0's at about $100 each.

On that budget you'll probably have to make your own box. I sell complete plans for $8 if you need them.
