rear 6 x 9 speakers don't fit!!

I just got a pair of fairly decent 600W 6x9's problem is they don't fit under the sail panel and made a custom cut but its hard to screw them in. I was just wondering how other people hide their bigger magnet 6x9's under the sail panels cause i can't for the life of me get them to fit.

please post pics if you have any. mine look nice when they are visible. they look kinda like the sony X-plodes but are much better quallity IMHO.

Thanks for the help

I made a trim ring out of 1/2" MDF to mount mine. I had to "coax" the sail panel cover back into place, but it looked fine. I didn't take any pics though, and I've since gotten rid of them.

What is the monting depth stock on our cars? My Kenwood 6x9s were already in may car when i got it and it looks like they are stockly fit. How deep is your 6x9?

im not sure what the depth is. I just know my car is a 83 Firebird. I know foam inside is the stock and in good condition so its not blocking the magnet in anyway.

Also I had another question. One of these brand new speakers is having low bass frequency problems and makes static and crackling problems. The other one is however crystal clear. would basically just need to make a brand new seal around the cone where the rubber touches it? YOu know, so no air can pass between any probable gaps. I know that can be the only problem cause nothing else if faulty and the cone beautiful and brand new.

The surround could be the problem but you may also want to check that nothing is touching the speaker and that you dont have dust in the syspention where the magnent is. I would hate to say it but if you can take the speaker back, could be faulty out of the box.

I got an 87 firebird and i think the depths should be the same but im too lazy to go out and unscrew my speakers to find out the depth.

I just put some X-plod 6x9's in today. they sound fine, and fit without any hassle, even the screw holes lined up, simply had to change the terminals on the cable.

some 6x9's are too deep. if you look at the cavity speaker mounts in, it slants out downward and the back is pretty much the outer body sheetmetal. a spacer made of wood might help between plastic interior panel and steel bracket attached to body.

My JBL's fit fine. I just replaced them after 13 years with Boston Accoustic RM-9's and they were a tight fit. The insulation on the back of the enclosure had to be tweaked a little for the magnets to fit. Otherwise they were ok. I still need to seal around the speaker but I need to double check the wire size. I think I have 14 gauge going to them, if it's 16 gauge, I will need to change it out. I have an Alpine MRV-F450 amp going in that will give 50W RMS each to 4 speakers with 200W RMS going to a 10 Alpine SWE-1041 10" Subwoofer. I'm hoping the amp will fit under my flowfit driving seat. I like to keep things hidden!!!!
