Bose Speakers Fried??

I went to one of the local big name stereo shops here in town to get an adapter for my Bose speakers so I could use them with an aftermarket deck on the 92 RS I restoring.

According to the Peripheral website, I needed part number GMAH21 and they didn't have it.

So, the tech guy suggested that I install part number GMAH21A, which they did have in stock. He said that the only difference between the two is that the later model had the On-star compatability feature and that it would work fine for my needs.

Well I get it home and install it and turn on the radio and it screeched like a banshee to an almost deaening extent, no matter what volume or gain setting was used. I called Peripherals tech line and they said that the adapter I had purchased was NOT compatible.

I told the stereo shop this and they ordered me the right part, which after nearly three weeks still hasn't shown up.

Ok, here is where the real problem begins, I went home and hooked the factory deck back up to the car and now only half my speakers work, where they ALL worked before. My question is: Could I have toasted out my factory system by using the wrong part and what can I do about it??????

Get rid of the bose system all together. The bose system sounds great, but it is designed specifically to work with bose head units. Replace all the speakers and the amps, and it will sound alot better.

if you hooked up the adapter, then took it off, i'd say check your wiring

which half of your speakers work? I'm experiencing something similar
all 4 speakers were working, then one day, boom. only the left side works

I suspect maybe one of my connections came loose (probably the negative wire, as the radio only uses a "Common" for both negative wires.....)

i will investigate more into my problem, tomorrow.

i am NOT using the interface, however :/ but i should get one

BOSE ?

Let me know if you ditch the Bose Speakers,....... I could use them and would be interested in buying them if you decide to go with all aftermarket stuff.

Hey... Saturday i took the radio out, and connected a wire back together.. the right speakers still didn't work

later that day, i was cruising with some friends, and hooked up the radio (plugged in the harness).. i don't remember the right speakers working

but monday, i blasted some music and noticed they were working again

very, very strange. the volumes of the speakers seem to match now, for some reason, too. Before, the right side speakers were moderately lower than the left, until i hit the max volume of the radio.

sounds great, now, dispite using a very old cassette player w/ cassette adapter on a cd player.
