Placement of the AMP
ok i have an 84 TA and i put 2 6 x 9s in boxes in the back. i am hooking an amp up to them and would like to know the best place to put the amp. like in that little area on the drivers side? or under the pannel in the back? and i would really rather not drill or screw into anything and also i should mention i have T-tops and they stay in the back where they should be. ...... here's a pic of what i'm talkin about (i can't draw so bare with me) X marks the spot for where i think the AMP might go. also what about heat, it gets hot and i don't want a fire or anything shorting out. i was thinkg velcro for the carpet parts so it doesn't slide or double sided tape?
take a look at a couple of computer fans to push or pull air past the amp. they're cheap and work on twelve volts.
dont overpower the amp. (like using a 25 watt peak amp to push 6x9's. pay attention to the RMS power. usually a minimum of 50 watts of RMS power PER CHANNEL will be more than adequate.)
dont turn the gain up past half way, and the amp shouldnt get that hot.
if you kinda follow some basic guidelines, and are using the system for just fooling around you should be fine.
Better Quality Amps normally don't run as hot in a 4 ohm system.

Good Luck!

if you wanna hide the amp like that and don't wanna worry about overheating and so forth best recommendation i can give you is go with a high quality amp... such as the JL line of amps... these amps will cost you a buck or tooo.. . but will have warranty that won't try fugding you ... i accidently sparked a power wire across one of my rca inputs... fried my 2 week old 600 dollar amp ... no questions asked they replaced it because they know there amps are the best.... they have heat fins to keep it cool and they do work... never had mine over heat.... they also have a saftey device that turns them off if they get tooo hot....
to save yourself a bunch of headaches go with the JL amplifier line... they in my belief are top of the line and won't let you down...
later... just voicin a respectfull feeling for the amp...

the AMP i got is an older pioneer it looks like this one http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pe..._37376,00.html (i'll find out on mon what the part # really is) but the guy that gave it to me sed it is only 100 Watts and it was put one in that i could get really cheap (or FREE
) or not put one in at all. it's really not that big of a deal to me and i can't be spending the money u guys r talking about. i just want do this the right way without killing the amp or having a safty prob.

would sticking stick-on velcro be ok with the heat? like i am just gona put the AMP between the speakers since i won't have my T-tops off (it's getting cold here in pittsburgh) so i'm gona stick little squares of velcro on the corners so it doesn't slide around and then later may some double sided tape the body shop uses at my work but i don't want it to burn, melt, or whatever else could happen.

just get 4 short little small screws.... and if your puttin it between your speakers you can screw it down to the wood... ****... i shoulda read your post carefully... i don't remember your setup... well if you have subs and have box with two speakers go ahead and screw it down to the box but remember this is harder on the amp due to the fact its attached to your subs so vibrations will be shanking the amp furosiously sometimes causing things to rattle loose or bad.. not often though... but if you just puttin this down to carpet four 1/2 inch screws would also work cause it will just screw down into your carpet and insulation and hold decently... the velcro crap will hold only thing with the heat is it might heat up the glue on the sticky side of the velcro so when you take the velcro off it will pry leave a crappy residue and all gluey and **** but adhesive remover removes that stuff easily... velcro is a very common thing used for this type of situation and should cause no problems

Well, from the sounds of it this might actually work quite well for you. Get four screws (about 1/3" long) and screw the amp right into the carpet. It won't puncture ANYTHING and that amp is going NOWHERE. Thats how I have mine and it hasn't moved an inch. And you REALLY have to yank on it to get it to come off without unscrewing it. As far as placement, you can do what I did also! (minus the sub box)
