Head Unit Blown Up?

I have a Pioneer DEH-P2500 i've had it installed in the car since about July of this year. About 4 or 5 days ago the cars electrical system seemed to start having some problems. I blew a few fuses replaced them and everything seems ok. Well anyways the fuse for the HU was blown so i replaced it and now it would turn on but neither of my amps would so i checked the output voltage from the "remote" wire and was not getting any. If anyone has any ideas as to what i should do i would greatly appreciate it. I've thought about opening it up and figuring it out but ive been told by a few Pioneer dealers that most likely the chip that controls the "remote" wire is blown so i dont know if i should rely upon that or go through the sensitive components. I love how pioneer built their chassis. you can get to the lower main board until you take apart the whole cd player mechanism's. I know a good bit about electronics and i can get my way around most stereo's, tv's, and vcr's, but i've never screwed with a Car's cd playing HU. i've fixed my old JVC HU that was cassette a few times and had no prob's but i dont like what im seeing when i pop the top part of the chassis off. If anyone has some ideas let me know or if i should send it to be fixed. (i just moved to california so im a little low on the cash unfortunately!) I need my music back please help!

I know what’s wrong with your radio, but if it's a DEH-P2500 it should still be in warranty. You said you just moved to CA, If you got the radio at one from the big chain stores (circuit city/best buy) you can take it to any of there stores and drop it off for repair (doesn’t need to be the store you got it from). Do not try to fix it if it’s under warranty, you opening it up can void the warranty.
It makes me nervous telling some how to fix there radio, you can F thing up real bad real E-Z. But I'll try to help.

I have seen several Pioneer decks that have suffered from power spikes or surges. The main board always seems to take the brunt of the damage.

I would see if the unit is still under warranty, I hope if you did open the deck that you managed to avoid damaging the warranty sticker.

If it is not under warranty, then you can try two things.

1) Order the main board from pioneer parts direct (expect to pay around 150-300$ or more for the board. Then swap the boards.

2) Use the switchable (Ignition) line from your car as the amp switch.

You DON'T need a new main PCB, just one part. Expect to pay $20.00-$25.00 for part, may be less if you look around. There is NO need to replace the entire PCB for this failure. But like I said before, the DEH-P2500 should still be under warranty. It hasn’t even been out for a year yet.

And there’s no warranty sticker to worry about. But there are ways to tell.

Its a little late for the warranty thing now. It was given as a gift from my ex who worked at wal-mart. Now i didnt get a reciept with it and i figured that wal-mart wouldnt accept it back. So not to scare anyone i did take it apart and concluded that the part that is blown is what looks like the main output transistor IC it has about 25 pins stands upright against the back part of the chassis and is screwed into the main heat sink that is mounted onto the deck. Considering that the heat sink was getting to hot to touch and i havent found any visible burn marks on the PCB my first guess would be this IC. I was told by a local Pioneer (Retailer/repairer) that it would cost about $50 bucks for that part. 1. Does this sound about right? and 2. Does that sound like the right price for the chip? That chip is the only chip that is showing any signs of damage on i believe is 14th and 15th pins it's showing burn damage. The Pioneer rep i spoke with that if the unit is overheating to the point of that you cant touch the heatsink that it logically would be the closest thing to the heatsink. That output IC now that is the problem being addressed now but if there is something that caused that IC to screw up short of the Power Surge then ill be back at square one again. Nothing else looks amiss could something else cause it?

I think you got it man but just so you know I've run a few pioneer HUs and they naturally run hot, in the summer on 90degree days I used to have mine say HEAT and shutdown after about an hour of use, the only way I got it to stop was by switching to all external amps (working AC also helps a bit). Granted that was like 2 years ago and the newer models should have fixed that.
